Organizations that claim they do the work...

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Who said that? That is funny!! Ill tell you what, not only does it irritate me sometimes but my family who can care less where they came from. I call up my mother and grandmother saying " guess where so and so is from" or " guess what we might be italian citizens" and they dont even blink. Its amazing how some people are so into it and some people dont even want to know a darn thing. Thats especially annoying. I call these people up asking them if they know any birth dates or stuff and its always a "no". Its like, how do you not know about your family? I know who my great great great grandparents were and you barely know your parents!

Let me preface this by saying that I have been married to my one and only wife for 27 years and do not forsee divorce in my remaining lifetime.

Having said that, virtually 100% of couples marry because they are truly, madly, in love and cannot ever imagine that the time would come when they would want to be apart. Yet, statistics show that some - what? - 50% of them? will eventually divorce.

As to the kiddies... Let us imagine three of them: Billy, Bobby, and Betty. Adorable little kids, aren't they? Betty grows into a fine young woman, eventually marrying and having two beautiful and well-behaved children of her own. Bobby was a great student, went on to medical school and now has a thriving practice as a well-respected General Practitioner. But, Billy, ahh billy. He was always a handful and by the time he got to high school he had fallen in with the wrong crowd, started doing drugs, dropped out of school - you know, the whole nine yards. He got nabbed one time too many for shoplifting and is now doing a couple of years in state prison.

Meanwhile, you and your husband have been doing okay in life and have saved up a bit of money, between your savings, 401k's, the equity in your home, and that small villa you own on the outskirts of Rome, you have an estate worth about $600,000. You've talked things over, sat with your attorney, and made the hard choices. You have decided to leave the money to Bobby and Betty, equally, and disinherit Billy. He would just spend the money on drugs anyway...

Not long after, death comes, as it eventually comes to us all. Bobby and Betty are making plans to invest their $300,000 portion of the estate so it will be there one day for *their* kids, when Billy's newly-hired lawyer pops up and says, Whoa! Not so fast!

You see, Billy has figured out that he can hire an Italian lawyer and file a claim in Italy where disinheriting natural children is not permitted (conjecture; I am not positive this is correct but you get the idea). Sure enough, the Italian court sides with Billy and although the court can't enforce it's order in the US, it can give Billy the villa and any other assets being held in Italy...

Sure, maybe it's a stretch. But, hey, it could happen!

I doubt that 100% of people marry for "love" much less "mad love".

I would imagine the best marriages are those where both couples think the same way and recognize that marriage is, at best, a poor accomodation which requires effort just to stay together in order to achieve life long objectives.

The old adage that marriage is better than dying alone like a dog is true today as it has always been. =Peter=
