Looking for info on grandfather/grandmother

Post by bobg4369 »

I am trying to find out any information about my grandparents
Cristofaro Giacini & Rosaria Spitale. I know that my grandfather was born in Gangi in 1868 and I think that my grandmother was also born there in 1872. They were married in Gangi and emigrated to the US (New York City). They had 10 children. It is believed that they emigrated to Argentina for a period of time and than returned to Gangi before emigrating to the US.

Welcome to the Forum!
Have you found any of your grandparent's records in the US?
census, ship manifests, naturalization
We wouldn't want to duplicate your work!
Thank you, Valarie

Hi Valarie,

Yes, I do have the ships manifests for both grandparents and all of their children. My grandmother lived with my aunts and I have info on her in the states but my grandfather seperated from her and I have no further info on him except for a 1930 census record that shows that he was living with one of my uncles in New York. It is also interesting that he and some of my uncles changed the spelling of his last name to Giacino. None of the remaining family really knows why.

Thanks for your quick response.

In fact, they may have returned to the correct spelling. Throughout today's Italy, there are only four Giacino's (all in Verona), and *no* Giacini's. See http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html and http://www.paginebianche.it/index_en.html
