Date of birth?
How could I get a date of birth for a relative? I dont know when he died or where he was born, possibly Naples, Italy. I need to do an index search on USCIS but they need a date of birth. Any tips?

If you do not try you willnever know....there is one listing for Beniamino Pasaro in Newark, NJ in 1910. You can try it out at www.footnote.com for$3.00 His birth seems to be 1878. =Peter=

Yes, death certs up to 1920 are available at the NJ archives and open to the public to search.

1922, Newark, NJ may be the death year and place. Footnote threw the date and place and directory but nolt the event. =Peter=

But the 1920 census said his wife was widowed. Or is it possible that the census is actually not done in 1920 but in the 20s?PeterTimber wrote:1922, Newark, NJ may be the death year and place. Footnote threw the date and place and directory but nolt the event. =Peter=

Re: Date of birth?
What Im saying is my conclusion is he died before 1920 so that footnote about newark in 1922 wouldnt be about him. What was the note anyway. I cant even see what I would be purchasing. Do you know what it is?

Re: Date of birth?
According to this Ancestry.com web page, "The 1920 Census was begun on 1 January 1920. The actual date of the enumeration appears on the heading of each page of the census schedule, but all responses were to reflect the individual's status as of 1 January, even if the status had changed between 1 January and the day of enumeration. For example, children born between 1 January and the day of enumeration were not to be listed, while individuals alive on 1 January but deceased when the enumerator arrived were to be counted."DeFilippis78 wrote:But the 1920 census said his wife was widowed. As is often discussed here, please keep in mind that census documents are notorious for containing errors both deliberate and not. For starters, mostof our ancestors spoke very little English or none at all and, unlike today, most census data was collected by enumerators who went door-to-door and interviewed the members of the household. Names are often grossly misspelled, ages reported incorrectly, naturalization status confused, etc. Sometimes a person was recorded as deceased when he was in fact simply working away from home. Sometimes if a man deserted his wife and children, the wife would say "he died" out of shame or out of fear of being deported.
In short, when you have conflicting pieces of info, you should consider the possibility that the census is wrong.

You would be purchasing for $3.00 what www.footnote indicates it has on record for Beniamino Passaro in Newark, NJ and since this is the only reference to a Beniamino Passaro in www.footnote.com you have nothing to lose but much to gain wouldn't you? =Peter=

Re: Date of birth?
Well Im wondering that. The 20 census says he was naturalized but no date given and his wife remained alien well into her older years. And im having a hell of a time seeing if he was naturalized. So I wonder if it was just marked down even though he wasnt naturalized.
As far as his wife being widowed, in the 1930 census she was already living with her daughter and son in law, so something happened to him

Re: Date of birth?
True...except my family has no connection to newark. I would think he died where he lived in Jersey City unless he was at work or something. Ill check it out!PeterTimber wrote:You would be purchasing for $3.00 what www.footnote indicates it has on record for Beniamino Passaro in Newark, NJ and since this is the only reference to a Beniamino Passaro in www.footnote.com you have nothing to lose but much to gain wouldn't you? =Peter=
