Would I qualify, 1948 rule?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Would I qualify, 1948 rule?

Post by DeFilippis78 »

I need to know if the 1948 rule applies to me to see if there is a link for dual citizenship.

Great Great Grandfather born in Italy 1879
Great Granmother born in NY 1909
Grandmother born in NY 1938
Mother born in NJ 1956

Does it apply or not since the actual Italian citizen is a male but its coming to me through women?

Your great-great-grandfather was Italian.

His daugher (your great-grandmother), would have inherited citizenship from him, presuming that he did not naturalize prior to her birth.

Unfortunately, your grandmother could not inherit citizenship from her mother since she was born prior to January 1, 1948. Prior to that date, Italian citizenship was passed only by the father.

Your grandmother was not an Italian citizen, hence neither was your mother.

Sorry.
