Finally got no record from USCIS now what?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

thanks for the reply and I am happy to hear your positive outcome. I am waiting for my certificate of non-existence of naturalization for my ggf and then I ready to apply. I am excited to get this process done and to finally get the application submitted. :) Happy holidays

StevenV,

Good to hear some positive news from someone. I am one of those hopeful's waiting for a certificate of non-existence from USCIS. Do you perhaps recall the USCIS address you received your notification from? It seems people are writing to so many addresses just looking to hear back from anyone from USCIS. I sent my request in early September, so maybe I will hear some good news soon. Happy for you!

Happy Holidays to you, too, Mulé & Sophia.

Sophia: The return address at the top of my nonexistence letter is:

US Dept of Homeland Security
150 Space Center Loop
Lee's Summit, MO 64064

But that's not an address I ever wrote to! The address I wrote to (on March 30, 2009) was:

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
ATTN: Records Service Branch
1200 First Street, NE, 2nd Floor,
Washington, D.C. 20529-2204

But just before that, on March 27, I addressed a letter to:

FOIA Division
National Records Center
PO Box 648010
Lee’s Summit, MO 64064-8010

and faxed it to:

FOIA DIVISION
NATIONAL RECORDS CENTER
Fax: 816.350.5785

I'm sorry to say that I don't know which of these actually got the response! I enclosed a stamped self-addressed Priority Mail enveloped with the March 30 letter but I can't quite recall if my letter of Nonexistence came in the envelope I provided or not (by the time it arrived I didn't need it). I think it did, which would suggest that the top address (March 30) was the one which worked, but I can't be absolutely sure, as I didn't keep the envelope it arrived in.

I suppose I might just try both addresses or however many options you might have. That's what I resorted to.

I really wish I could be more exact, but I made so many phone calls and got so much different & often conflicting info that sometimes it all runs together except for what I actually have written down.

I hope this helps in some way--or let me know how else I might be of assistance. I hope you do hear soon!

Buona fortuna!

Same here, I sent to any and every address I had. I hope to have a favorable outcome in a couple of months, if not sooner. ;)

Congrats! Can't believe it took them three months to handle mine and just weeks to get yours. What a great Christmas gift for you!

I know right. I sent a total of 6 letters. I sent three on the 19th, but they were vague and didn't include all the details like birth date and such as I thought they would look it up from my request. Then a week later I sent another set of 3 (one to each address) with the complete set of information, plus the NARA no records and the county court and district court. Maybe with all that extra documentation they were quicker to make a ruling based on their own searches as well. In any event, I was super surprised this holiday season!

I'm trying to get the county courts to check for me now. I also need to check records on my ggf to show proof that he didn't naturalize when my gf was a child. (I know he didn't - just have to obtain the proper records.) This is such a pain...

Yeah, it isn't relevant if your ggf naturalized after your gf was born, right? Your ggf was Italian at the time of your gf's birth, so the jure sanguinis was passed down. If your gf was born in the US then he wouldn't need to be "naturalized" as he was a natural born citizen already, so what difference would it make if your ggf naturalized after your gf was born? crazy the loops they put us through... good luck...

Although my gf was born in Italy, if my ggf naturalized while my gf was still a child (or under 18?) then my gf would be automatically naturalized under my ggf. So far - there are no known records of any naturalization on my ggf or gf, but I still need to check the local county courts (I think.) Too many steps just to prove they did not naturalize. Keep your fingers crossed...

my fingers are crossed for you. It is so much harder to prove that they never did naturalize... good luck...

Thanks. How long did it take you to get the apostiles for all your documents?

Not long at all, maybe 2 weeks turn around time. I got the apostilles immediately after receiving my documents. So I had documents coming and going all the time. I have had the majority of my documents completed for a while, just waiting on this last one, the USCIS one... I am not sure if I am going to send this one for an apostille or not.

Thanks for the info. I need to start on all this once I have the final USCIS letter for my ggf proving neither he nor my gf naturalized. Does not make sense to spend the money on other items until this is all confirmed.
