Gelsomino Pelosi

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Gelsomino Pelosi

Post by apesce65 »

I need a hint of what to do.

Gelsomino listed his arrival as April 1903 in the port of Boston on his Naturalization papers, but I cannot find a ship that arrived in Boston at that time period. He listed Naples as the port of departure.

I guess not all manifest are available on line, I use ancestry.com any where else to look?

You must have looked in the wrong place as many, many, ships arrived in Boston in April 1903. Go to this Ancestry.com page (Boston Passenger Lists, 1820-1943) and on the right side under Browse This Collection, use the pull-down to set the year to 1903 then choose April from the next pull-down. As you can see, there were some 20 ships carrying passengers into Boston that month. Click one of the ship names to see the passenger list.
If you are simply searching by name (Gelsomino Pelosi), please be aware that these records have been transcribed manually and names are often transcribed incorrectly. It can take tens of hours and a multitude of searches to find an ancestor's ship manifest.

his name is crossed out, so possible he didn't travel on that ship... maybe he changed his first name in Gaetano??

I agree with you Val...
I found out that Alfonso D'Avino was the Master of the D'Avino Band in Boston... :D
He was born in Frigento on 1878...
If Gelsomino was a musician it's possible he worked in the Band
On Genealogybank there is a 1916 newspaper article :

2) Popular Concert at Braves Field D' Avino's Band Will Make Another Appearance on Wednesday Night

http://www.genealogybank.com/gbnk/newsp ... =d%27avino

Could you post it here?

Hey Laura,
Neat find :D
22 Jul 1916 from the Boston Journal
Rocco D'Avino (brother of Alfonso) was one of the witnesses on his petition and he's on your 1903 manifest find.

Hey Laura!
Neat manifest!
From the earlier post, he did have a brother Giuseppe who joined him in 1904. But you're right it's Gelsomino/Gaetano on the 1910 census.
