PRIVINZANO Family

Hi,
I'm . I Live in Milan, but my grandparents moved to Milan from San Mauro Forte, a little town in Basilicata......the story of my family (and the story of my surname), has ever been unknown to me, and so i'd like to know something 'bout it.....
My family' surname is PRIVINZANO

There is no listing for PRIVINZANO inthe Italian surname dictionary which means it was either imported from abroad and italianized or was originally loca lin origin based upon an occupation, nickname or could be a spelling error and should have been Provenzano since there is only one listing for the name in one town in Basilicata and one listing for the name in one town in Lombardia which lends credence to the spelling error. This is evident when you see it on the map of Italy at www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi and just put in Privinzano in the upper left.

Provenzano surname is common in the South of Italy and rare and sporadic inthe North of Italy.

I double checked with the Mormon ancestor search for the Prinvinzano surname and there is NO LISTING reflectying that it is not common to any other country inthe world other than Italy. =Peter=
