Searching for my great grandparents

Post by momsrule »

Hi.. I was hoping someone could give me some help on where to start searching for records in Italy.

This is all I know:
My GG came from Curinga, her name was Eleanor Lauria dob 1863, married a man Andrew Delazandro, Delasandra or Dellasanda.
She came over to USA in 1899 with some of her children and than her husband died (in Italy) and than the rest of her children came to USA in 1901.
He was a magistrate (or so I was told). I'm dealing all with hear-say on the husband since no-one ever knew him :(

Thanks for any help you can give me :)

She lived in Pennsylvania.

What doesn't make sense to me is all her children have the last name Lauria, but the elders in the family tell me that was her maiden name, unless its common that they changed the last name when they came to USA ?

Here is a manifest for "Cleonora Lauria" (poor transcription of the name. The manifest actually looks like "Eleonora Lauria), and her children:

SS. Spartan Prince, arriving NY, 17 August 1899
Cleornora Lauria, 39, widow, from Tursi
Children:
Guglielmina, 14
Alfonso, 16
Bettina, 3
Beniamino, 5 mo.

Passage paid by her daughter, going to her daughter Filomena in NY.

not a problem...:-) happens to me all the time..

I did a search using "Teresina D'Alesandro" and "Andrea D'Alesandro" and I only find a manifest for Teresina for 1899. This may take a little while. I will do my best with all the information from the manifest you gave me.

Ah, now I see Felice, Luisa and Nicolina on the lines above.
That helps... :-)

There is a full and clear copy of the manifest page on Ellis Island. Go back to the page you posted, and advance to next page.

Can you post that page? I'm not having much luck retrieving the ancestry copy of that manifest.

Now that I can see the whole manifest, it looks like Teresina was going to join her husband Francesco D'Alessandro, in NY

The Family on line 12 (Felice, Luisa and Nicolina) were going to join a brother in law in Philadelphia.
