Am I reading this correctly? Romita? This means hermit, no?

My source says ROMITA=HERMIT. It is noted as well that an Augustian monk is known as a Romitano.

In further study it might well be a person engaged as an herbalist and /or a person residing alone. =Peter=

Since he was married with children, I'm thinking herbalist would make more sense.

1837 has been an interesting year for Torre ... hermits, bagpipe players, orphans named after vegetables ... and an outbreak of cholera.
