Valentino Pompa

Post by queenie1 »

Looking for any help locating my ggrandfather who immigrated to the US in 1888 ..it says on the ship's manifest...the Cachemire...arrived on April 20,1888... that he was from Castelluccio (only) and that he was born in 1865..his name of ship manifest is Valentino Pompa and when he was naturalized in 1906 it had changed to Robert Pomp....I want to find any relatives in Italy and need help in locating those years between his immigration and his time that he spent in WV...marrying my grandmother and unfortunately dying an early death.1912 .thanks for any information..this looks like an awesome board!!!!

You can request his birth record from Castelluccio by going to this website for form letters in Italian.
http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

Go to www.nonsolocap.it and put in CASTELLUCCIO on top and click CERCA. Return website will have ziup code, Castelluccio name, province initials and region. Click arrow right on the town name and when the new screen comes up scroll down to MUNICIPIO for the address of the UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE. Request his ESTRATTO DI NASCITA (long form birth record) which will containhis parents names.

Go to telephone directory for Castelluccio at www.paginebianche.it and put in surname in fiurst line and Castelluccioin second line and click cerca for any relatives. =Peter=

Maybe the correct place was Castelluccio Valmaggiore - Foggia Province - Apulia region... :?:

You're very welcome.... :D

I would advice you to contact your nearest Family History Center:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp

because the Mormons microfilmed the civil registration of the town Castelluccio Valmaggiore....
I'm not 100% sure this is the right town but I noticed there were several Pompa coming from there...

and ask to rent these two microfilms:

Nati 1855-1865 (births 1855-1865)-- Morti 1809-1816
FHL INTL Film 1178181

Nati, matrimoni, pubblicazioni, morti 1866-1872
FHL INTL Film 1803483 Item 3

You'll be able to check by yourself and find the birt act for your ancestor....

here is the link to find the towns microfilmed:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0
