Villa
Re: Villa
There is a Simplicio Villa from Celano Italy on the following passenger list:
SS Duca D'Aosta which arrived on May 14, 1920. To view this record
go to www.ellisislandrecords.org and type in his name
or go to www.stevemorse.org and use the third option which is the gold form and type in his name (this will also search the Ellis Island records, but sometimes is easier and gives you more options for doing so)

Re: Villa
Wow....you guys are amazing!!
I have spent many countless hours trying to get this info.
I dont believe that he arrived in 1920 though as he married my grandmother in 1920 (i have the wedding certificate). But you are correct about the cousin Biagio as he signed their wedding certificate.
I also have his original birth certificate showing 1893 as DOB....could the 1895 just be an approximate?
So you think he first came in 1912....i wonder why he would come and then go back to Italy and back again. I wonder if its the same Simplicio!
His first wife Santa was from Celano? Do you know what happened to her or any info on her?
The address that you gave me to get info on Birth/Marriage certificate....do they understand English if i write and is there a charge.
I cannot thank you enough for your help.
I am so glad that i joined this group!!

Re: Villa
Neither of these facts is out of line and many here can point to similar situations in their own heritage. Myself for example...michaud wrote:I dont believe that he arrived in 1920 though as he married my grandmother in 1920 (i have the wedding certificate).

My paternal grandfather first came to the US at age 17, returned to Italy a few years later, married my grandmother and quickly impregnated her. Before she gave birth, my grandfather returned to the US to plant a new life for his family; his wife and child joined him later.

Re: Villa
Hi, I have no more infos; but the records found it are abt the only Simplicio Villa coming from Celano....
He , most probably, came back in Italy, for military service, married at Santa, and again back in USA; I know not why he married also in USA; maybe Santa died very soon, after Simplicio second trip... it is possiblle....
but that is only a my suggestion....
best regards,
suanj

Re: Villa
Everyone here is so helpful....i am so grateful.
I dont know how to get this info but.....i know my grandfather was widowed when he married my grandmother in Nova Scotia in 1920. So by the posts i assume he married in Celano to Santa. Somehow i have to put the timelines together of his marriages, move to Canada etc.
I believe i need to know this info in order to obtain my italian citizenship.

Re: Villa
Thank you Suanj...you have been very helpful.
I have spent many hours looking for information that you found very quickly.
I now have information that i will hopefully be able to follow up with.
I only hope that my grandfather did not give up his citizenship....im not sure what some of the information on the ship manifest that you sent me means....in terms of whether he was a Italian citizen or not...do you understand it?
I am sooo thankful for your assistance.

Re: Villa
I cannot believe how helpful everyone has been...thank you so very much.
Yes VJ he eventually ended up in NS where he married my grandmother. Now i just have to determine his citizenship and hopefully it remained Italian. Im assuming that i will need to have his 1st wife Santa marriage and death certificate in order to apply for citizenship...is that correct??
This has been a great experience !!
