Help with Genealogy Search

I am looking for information on a Mario Pubblico who came to the US in 1906 on a Celtic steamer that arrived in New York on 3-19-06. I found the manifest on the Ellis Island site. That site lists the city of origin as Cashorevele. Unfortunately I can't find this city in Italy. I think it should be Castroreale, but I am not not sure. Also, the manifest lists a cousin as sponsor in Providence, RI with the last name of Mariana I think. I can't get the first name because the original manifest is hard to read. (I think the first name is Segurio ?) In addition there was a companion on the same ship named Francesco Catalfanio who lists the same cousin as a sponsor. Any ideas on how I might get information from Italy without spending a lot of money on the websites on the net. I may have to go that route later but would like to do some searching on my own for awhile, if I can. Any help would be appreciated.

The town does look like Castroreale, which is in the Province of Messina in Sicily...

I think the cousin in Providence has a first name of Mariana, and the second name is hard to read but looks like something close to "Scaudrici"

Mario Publico, 37, married, born in Italy, immigrated in 1906, PA (first papers for naturalization filed), working as laborer in a Woolen Mill.
Wife: Quinchita, 44, born in Italy, immigrated 1906

Considering the last name Pubblico is absolutely rare in Italy (looks like today on he white pages only three persons are listed in all Italy) I believe the records you found are correct...

Again, I thank all who responded to my original posting. I have learned so much since I first posted and the info I received was very helpful. I did talk with a person from Sicily and she found Mario Publico's birth registration in Castroreale. In fact he was a abandoned child just like pink67 thought. I have yet to talk with this person again to find out more on Mario. I am now searching for the maternal grandparents. The lady I talked with said she could not find them in the records for Rodi, Sicily. Hopefully when we can find more information and then go to Sicily.

They had four children:
Angelo Conti in 1868
Guiseppe Conti in 1872

Rosina Garaffo (Maiorano) (Conti) in 1881
NOTE: - I HAVE A FOUND A LOT OF INFO ON the CONTI children AND BIAGGIO GARRAFO (Rosina's 2nd husband) once they arrived in the US - I CAN SHARE IF ANYONE IS LOOKING.
