Help wanted from Argentina
Re: Help wanted from Argentina
Just wanted to let you know I received a letter of response from Argentina today. They did get back to me!
Unfortunately they had no information to convey. I dont read spanish but there is no new information there pertaining to my query.
Thanks for your words of encouragement. I was hopeful but it seems the civil registration office in Argentina is very limited by what they can offer, which is fair enough really as they must get thousands of similar requests.

Re: Help wanted from Argentina
What about someone who came to NY from Sicily in 1914, but than after that, and I am not sure when went to Argentina? How would I find this record?

Hi Micheles, You might want to post your question as a new topic so that you can benefit from the wealth of experience that is out there. Also the Ellis Island website might be helpful for you.

Can Anyone Recommend a Genealogist in Argentina?
I eventually received a letter from Births/Deaths/Marriages Buenos Aires Argentina but unfortunately they didnt find any information about my great grandmother. Its possible she didnt marry in Buenos Aires? I really dont know? However she did have two children to her 2nd husband there and she did die there.
I'd like to track down her great grandchildren so i need to find a genealogist who can track down my great grandmothers death certificate and then her descendants. Does anyone have any advice on who can do this work in Argentina?
Ive emailed 2 or 3 advertised genealogists but they wont give me any idea on what it might cost or how much they charge.
Thanks, Liliana

Have you seen the Argentina Catholic Church records on www.familysearchlabs.org?
You just need to register with a username and password.

Re: Help wanted from Argentina
The Family Search Pilot project is great! Ive searched on that several times but have never found any information relevant to my family but it must be fantastic for others.
I'll keep searching...but I think I need help from a Genealogist based in Argentina at this point. If anyone has suggestions re a genealogist I'd love to hear from you.

Re: Help wanted from Argentina
Unfortunately the genealogist I found couldnt find any death records or any information on my great grandmother, Carmela Zagami, who moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1913. She said the main problem is that I dont know who she married in Argentina which means I cant even search for the two children she had there. Ive also tried writing letters to several of the provinces but no response from any except Buenos Aires. It would be great to hear from anyone who has had success in getting a death or marriage record from Argentina.

You might want to cut thru all this, go to www.familias-argentinas.com.ar and ask them to help you locate the documents. See what they charge you and maybe its worth the trouble. =Peter=

Re: Help wanted from Argentina
Hi Liliana,
I am also trying to find my family history. My great grandfather was Salvatore Zagami from Fiumefreddo di Sicilia. I was reading your post where your great great grandmother was married to a Santo Zagami. As far as im aware Salvatore had a brother Santo. They also had a brother named Paolo, Giuseppe, Agatino, Leonardo and a sister Tina. Do these names ring any bells at all? My great grandfather Salvatore was married to Rosa Panebianco but she died when she was around 25 and Salvatore then remarried a woman named Nada. If you have any info that would be great.

Re: Help wanted from Argentina
Hi Zagami,
I think its highly likely that Salvatore and Santo Zagami were related as there were not many Zagami's in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia in the late 1800's to early 1900's. My 2nd great greandfather Santo Zagami was born 15 Dec 1845 in Giampilieri. He died 18 Mar 1922 in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia. He married Maria Aloisi in 1869 and married again in Fiumefreddo to Angela Crimi. His father was Paolo Zagami & mother Maria Micali.
I dont have a Salvatore as a sibling of Santo however the info I have is far from complete. This is because this family actually originally came from Giampilieri, Messina, Sicily. I have started to search the Giampilieri records but havnt come up with alot of info to date for the Zagami's.
Im happy to share info on the Zagami's of Fiumefreddo and Giampilieri. My family tree is on the Ancestry.com website but its listed as private. I not sent a link before but there must be a way that I can give you permission to view it but you would need to be an ancestry member. Alternatively I can send you a pedigree chart by email. I think I can do this via this forum. Just let me know if you would like it. It would be great if you can email me your tree also & maybe we can work out if there is a link by comparing them.
Just as a bit of info the name Nada I believe is short for Ignazia...a very common Sicilian name around Fiumefreddo.
I am actually in Sicily now on holiday with my family. I hope to get to the Giampilieri church to dig up some info but not sure of my chances of success as many of the little churches are closed these days.
Thanks for your contact please keep in touch as it would be great to compare trees.
