Antonia Mattora morti
Antonia Mattora morti
I would like to apologize for the quality of this image. I waited so long to find this morti and all of the 1889 mortis on the film are fuzzy. If someone would like an e-mail image for better quality, I will happily oblige.
Thank you for your help.

Even zooming in on the image in a photo program, the document is still fuzzy. This is what I can see-
Dated June 11, 1889 at 8 a. m. Informants were Pasquale Mattora, age (31?), a farmer living in this city, and ? Castelli, age 21, a farmer. The baby, Antonia Mattora, died today at 6 a.m. in the house on via Anfiteatro. She was the daughter of Pasquale Mattora, a farmer and Maria Tamburrino. Witnesses were Francesco Rania, age 35, a farmer, and ? Rania, age 32 a farmer.

The baby was 10 months.
Re: Antonia Mattora morti
Wow, Jim, this is REALLY blurry...
But here goes...
1889 the 11th of June at 8AM, before the mayor of SMCV appeared Pasquale Mattora, 36, farmer, of SMCV and Paolo Castrella (sp?), 21, farmer, of SMCV to declare that at 6 AM today, on Via Anfiteatro, died Antonia Mattora (looks like 10 months old) born in SMCV, to Pasquale, farmer, and Maria Antonia Tamburrino, farmer.
edit: Sorry this was redundant...Peg gave a nice translation.,

I was thinking the one informant was a Paolo. The surname Castelli exists in the town but the surname Castrella(i) doesn't. Can you make out the first name of the second witness at all?

Hi Peg,
I didn't think Castrella was correct but I gave what I could see.
The second witness looks like Michele.

Not if you look at the way the A in Antonia is written

Maybe Michele, but I really can't say for sure. I have it zoomed and did all kinds of things in my photo program and it's still not clear at all.

You're right about the capital A. It's not Angelo. The ending does look like ele.
Re: Antonia Mattora morti
The letter before the ele looks like a z to me.

No, I see it comes up so it could be an h

Well, believe it or not, it's not as bad as the copies I got off of microfilm last week for the town of Menfi in Sicily. They are not out of focus, but the ink is so thick that they are really difficult to read. Luckily I am just filling in blanks from research done years ago, so I can pretty much figure out what is correct.
Re: Antonia Mattora morti
But what a great sense of accomplishment when you finally decipher them!!

Re: Antonia Mattora morti
Wow, I had trouble reading this document on the actual film, including the index. It was terrible. You people are amazing.
This is the morti I had been awaiting to prove that my grandmother's birth record that was transcribed for her marriage documents was for this baby instead of the correct one in 1890. Not that it makes a big difference, but I feel vindicated that I was finally able to set the record straight.
Does anyone know whether there would be anyone in Italy that would want to correct this error?
Again, thank you very much for the yeoman's effort on this very important document.
