Nardulli Family from Palo Del Colle

Post by Nigliomerr »

Greetings. I am trying to find information about the Nardulli family from Palo Del Colle, Italy. My grandfather, Joseph and his brother emigrated to the U.S. in 1903. I understand he left behind 2 sisters but never spoke of them. I would like to go about tracing my roots back to see if I have still have family left in Italy.

Also I am told that my grandfather's father, was a monk before leaving the priesthood to marry. I woul like to know how I may be able to locate this information as well.

I have several questions about my grandmother's side as well. That side is from Bella, Italy. For now however I would like to concentrate on my grandfather's side.

Any ideas you can share as to how I may journey back is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Kind regards,
Maria

Hello and welcome to this forum-

There are some Nardulli entries from your town on the website www.familysearch.org

Possibly you will see something there that might connect to your ancestry.

There are also microfilmed records available for your town -Registri dello stato civile, Palo del Colle (Bari), 1809-1900. To get the microfilm numbers you must search the library catalog on the website that I gave you in my previous post. You must search Bari, part of Italy, and then Italy, Bari civil registration. You will see a list and then must click on your town name to see the list of microfilmed records available for your town.

Maria,

Can you tell me your grandfather's brother's name and where they settled in the US? Also do you have an approximate year of birth?

Greetings,

Thanks so much to everyone that has responded. I appreciate it a great deal.

In response to "misbris"...thank you.

My grandfather's brother's name was Mike, however I am not certain that is his given name. Reason being, I have my grandfather's birth certificate and he listed as Giuseppe on his birth certificate but he changed it to Joseph. They settled in a little town outside of Philadelphia, PA, called Conshohocken.

Their parents are Mauro Nardulli and Filomena - maiden name De Pallo.

My grandfather's date of birth is 5/21/03 and they emmigrated around 1909. I don't know if his brother was older or younger. Unfortunately I didn't know him as he passed before I was born.

I appreciate all of the posts. You are all very kind to help me out. Thank you, Maria.

I see Giuseppe on a Nov 9, 1909 passenger list with his mother Filomena. They were traveling to the town you mention in Pa. She was 36 and he was 6.

First Name: Giuseppe
Last Name: Nardulli
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian So
Last Place of Residence: Terlizzi, Italy
Date of Arrival: Nov 09, 1909
Age at Arrival: 6y Gender: M Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Madonna
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0024

He had a sister named Antonia Nardone who was in the town of Terlizzi, Italy (don't know if that is the correct spelling of the town name). That town name is given as their last residence on the passenger list. Their destination was to her husband Mauro in Conshohoken, Pa

Possibly someone can upload the image of this passenger list for you. Otherwise, you can view it either from www.stevemorse.org or from www.ellisislandrecords.org

Mauro immigrated from Palo del Colle. I'm having trouble reading the information on his original manifest concerning his destination upon arrival in the U.S. You will have to look at the image yourself to see if you can decipher the info

JOSEPH NARDULLI 21 May 1903 Aug 1978 19126 (Philadelphia, Montgomery, PA) 176-03-6795 Pennsylvania

this info is from the social security index viewable at www.rootsweb.com

By clicking on the SS-5 letter at right, a letter to SS will be formed which you can then send with $27 to get his application for his social security card. Basically that will have his parents' names and place of birth on it. You may not need this, but may want the document anyway.

Manifest for Filomena and Giuseppe

Filomena's surname was ammended. Looks like her maiden name might be De Paolo. She leaves a daughter Antonia Nardulli in Italy.

Greetings,

Thank you a thousand times over for your time and efforts to help me. I am beyond expression and appreciation for all the information you supplied. You have provided more then I could have ever imagined about a grandfather I adored more then anyone. There had always been speculation that my grandfather had a sister that was left behind in Italy but it was a topic nobody spoke about. The information you provided certainly takes the mystery out of it. Now I will continue my journey to find out about her.

I don't know how to say thank you enough.

Kind regards,
Maria
