Unfortunately, there are several places in Italy which would qualify as "Montemaggiore" and it will be necessary either to figure out which is the home of your ancestors, or write to all and see what happens.

frazione Montemaggiore, Comune di Monte San Pietro, Provincia di Bologna, Regione di Emilia-Romagna, Northeastern Italy

frazione Montemaggiore, Comune di Predappio, Provincia di Forlì-Cesena, Regione di Emilia-Romagna, Northeastern Italy

frazione Montemaggiore, Comune di Citta' di Castello, Provincia di Perugia, Regione di Umbria, Central Italy

frazione Montemaggiore, Comune di Savogna di Cividale, Provincia di Udine, Regione di Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Northeastern Italy

frazione Montemaggiore, Comune di Taipana, Provincia di Udine, Regione di Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Northeastern Italy

Comune di Montemaggiore Al Metauro, Provincia di Pesaro-Urbino, Regione di Marche, Central Italy

Comune di Montemaggiore Belsito, Provincia di Palermo, Regione di Sicilia, Insular Italy

frazione Montemaggiore Belsito Scalo, Comune di Montemaggiore Belsito, Provincia di Palermo, Regione di Sicilia, Insular Italy

Frazione = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frazione

There are many threads on this board which discuss the "how to" of obtaining civil records from Italy. One of them is here: http://italiangenealogy.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15162/

Well.....most of the folks who would know this have died. The ones that are still alive remember very little.

All I ever heard was that they were from Sicily and mentioned Montemaggiore.

I had much better luck with the Milazzo's in Bisacquino, Palermo, Italy

I guess I'll continue to poke around and get lucky.

I just thought I might get lucky because my grandmother had several siblings: Rose Tripi, Margaret Tripi, Mary Tripi, Virginia Tripi and Helen Tripi.

Just gotta dig a bit deeper. Thank you.

I found a manifest on ancestry . com for a Salvatore Tripi born 1868, last residence Cerda (which is in Provincia di Palermo on the island of Sicily), arrived in the US May 15, 1905, sailed from Palermo, coming to visit his brother Francesco (?, not certain of the writing) in Brooklyn, NY.

Ring any bells? Montemaggiore Belsito (in my list above) is only about 7 miles from Cerda...

That does sound possible.

I'm going to call my mother and see if she remembers where they entered into the US and if she rememberes. I am on Ancestry.com.....surprised that I did not see that.

Thank you for getting me back on the road to finding the answers.

I appreciate more than you know. I am in a race with time to capture as much as I can while my mother, aunts and uncles can still remember any details.

Thank You! Valerie!

Looks like that might be the link I need to fill in some blanks. Now I'll need to get back into the parish records to discover Leonarda Fiorella's Mother and Fathers name.

If you run across anything else please let me know. Something tells me this was an arranged marriage.

Valarie, this all matches up according to my mom...I'm really excited. Finding the name of Samuel Tripi's father and mother gets me further down the road than before...

Now I need to get the mother and father of Leanora Tripi......1878 and any siblings.....

I can't thank you enough for your help. I hope it wasn't too much trouble for you.

Salvatore Tripi was born the 7 jan 1868 in Montemaggiore, IT; sure is Montemaggiore Belsito; arrived the 1th feb 1891 at New York on the vessel German line( maybe the fleet)... resident in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama with wife Lena

by this naturalization record abt a Antonio Tripi also resident in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama , probably a relative, the birthplace is Montemaggiore Belsito full name...

no doubts that Montemaggiore Belsito is also birthplace of your ancestors...

SusanJ and Valerie,

I cannot thank you enough for your help. All of these dates, names, places can be overwhelming and since I am too young to have know any of theses facts....I have to rely on jogging the memories of my mother (Amelia Tripi's Daughter) to see if theses facts make sense. It's a great adventure to be on. Having help from knowledgeable people is such a blessing. I can tell you taht I have not run across anything like you both on my father's Irish Side of the Family. It's a brick wall.

Thanks again! My mother says thanks as well!
