Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Looking for info on Giuseppe Giacco and his wife Anna Polizi (Giacco) who had a daughter Rose or Rosie.
Re: Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Hello and welcome to the forum!
We can assist you better if you could provide some additional details...
Birthdates (even approximations) of Giuseppe, Anna and Rosa...
Did Rosa have siblings?
Where did you find Rosa's birthplace mentioned, Liragusa? Could it be Ragusa? or Siracusa?
When did Rosa immigrate?
Do you have US records and ship manifests, etc.?

Re: Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Info we have is from Commonwealth of Massachusetts Death certificate of Rose Manganaro. The information was provided by her son Biaggio Manganaro who was approximately 15 years old when she died in November 30, 1935. Info provided by her son was that she was 40 years old was born in Liragusa, Italy; father was Giuseppe Giacco born in Italy and mother was Anna Polizi born in Italy. So we assume she was born in 1895. We assume Biaggio was about 15 years old at the time she died. We know she was married to Frank Manganaro, (second marriage). We are uncertain of the year but have been told it was 1914. She would have been married to a Carmello Marino when she came over. One story was she gave birth to Anna Marino onboard the ship. We were told that Frank Manganaro came over in 1904.

Here is a record that is a probable for Rosa, but the manifest is misfiled. She is travelling with a Sebastiana Marino 2 months old. I'm not sure how long the journey took, but she was definitely travelling with a newborn.

Re: Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Let me understand this...
Rose was born in about 1895, and was married to Carmello Marino when she immigrated, but later married Frank Manganero in 1914 (so she was 19 years old for her second marriage...right?)

Here is a December 1909 manifest for Rosaria Giacco, age 19, from Melilli, Sicily, traveling with daughter Sebastiana Marino, age 2 months. Leaving relative Anna Polizi in Melilli, with a destination of Lawrence, Massachusetts to husband Carmelo Marino...

Thanks for posting that, Tessa. I couldn't pull it up on Ellis Island.
Re: Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
It also gives her relative as Anna Polizzi. Also Melilli is in the province of Siracusa.

Re: Giacco family whose daughter Rose born in Liragusa
Thank you Valerie and thanks again to T and MJ.
You all have been so helpful. I am going to post a new search for Frank Manganaro who was Rosiaria Giacco's second husband. He was born in Italy. His father was Candeloro Manganaro and his mother was Teresa Finocchiaro. Based on the death certificate 5/12/1932 info from his wife Rosie he was born April 3 1879. He was a fruit peddler which she stated he had been that for 20 years. So I don't know a city in Italy or occupation. We were told he came over before Rosiara but do not know for a fact.
