Now I have the marriage certificate for Antonetta's sister Giovannina. She married Vincenzo Mento in NYC in 1895. The document lists father's name as Alfonso or Alfonzo.
So two sisters have same mother, Rosa Massanelli, but two different fathers. The only other option I have is to get somebody to translate the other sister's marriage record from Anzi, Potenza. It might give the name of the father.
Ok, Maria Carmela Missanelli married Giovanni Marcoguiseppe in 1886. It's record #7 for that year (Anzi). Could somebody please tell me if a father is listed???
Chris,
you know that Maria Carmela Missanelli was born the 20 March 1867 in Anzi from Rosa Missanelli and unknown father; Rosa Missanelli was 20 old at birthchild, so born around 1847...
also the same infos on the marriage act, and ditto on Antonietta Missanelli birth act... http://s6.imagestime.com/out.php/i47996 ... li1867.jpg
I cannot find in Anzi births the act of Giovanna or Maria Giovanna Missanelli... I searched from 1870 to 1880 and no result...

Yeah, Giovanna is now the mystery instead of Antonietta. Giovanna's father is Alfonso. It doesn't give a surname on her marriage certificate. Perhaps the death certificate will have something, although I don't know exactly when she died.
Right now it sounds to me like the mother Rosa like to sleep around with married men or nobles.
Chris by marriage record of Giovanna, the surname is Missanelli, so she had the mother surname also.... the father's names abt Antonietta death certificate and abt Giovanna, well they are no corrects... the Rosa children had no father... just in USA they declaring a father name, but no true..

You don't think that is their real father's name? I was getting the idea that maybe Rosa told them later in life who their real father was. She obviously must have known the person she conceived each child with. That is, unless there were so many sexual partners that she had no idea.
I also found some other potential information. Attached is a death record for a Donata Maria Missanelli. I believe it states that mother is Rosa and father is unknown. Can you please tell me her date of death and age, if possible.
I have another record that I will attach in my next message. It may be another child of Rosa.
This is the death record for Rocco Missanelli, who died in 1868. Father is Vincenzo and mother is Rosa Palumbo, which means the mother's married name is Rosa Missanelli. I know it's a longshot, but maybe it could be my Rosa???
concerning Donata Maria's death record-it is dated July 4, 1873. In the margin of the record, it says she was 68 years old, but in the record itself it says di anni cinquantotto-she was 58. These means she was born abt 1715 and would not be a daughter of your Rosa.
My mom and dad came from two very different classes of Italian society. Dad's mom came from a very aristocrat family and mom's came from farmers and agricultural workers. When my mom's parents came to the US, they left their oldest son Giovanni in the care of my maternal grandmother's parents. I hea...
