gasparini and severino from l'aquila

Post by redchief777 »

I am trying to discover some information about my great grandparents, Antonio Gasparini and Lucia Severino Gasparini from Fontecchio. They are my grandfather's [Gabriel Cesare Gasparini] parents. He was born in Fontecchio in 1903 and emigrated alone to the United States in 1920.

Any assistance anyone can provide, I would appreciate.

Thanks,

Manifest for brother Giuseppe? 1910 Giuseppe Gasbarini - line 21...
Leaving mother Lucia in Fontecchio, going to an Uncle in Buffalo, NY

This manifest has 6 passengers going to the same address in Buffalo. They are all from Fontecchio, and include Giuseppe Gasbarini, 42, and Antonio Gasbarini, 49, on the lines above him.

Since you know your grandfather's comune (town) of birth, his approximate birthdate, and his parent's names, you can write directly to Fontecchio to request his birth record.

You should write your letter in Italian...
Use this form letter generator...

http://circolocalabrese.org/resources/l ... civile.asp

And address your letter to:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Contrada Murata, 10
67020 Fontecchio (AQ)
ITALY

Do not send money, but DO send a self addressed UNSTAMPED envelope...

Tessa,

My grandfather's parents from his death record in Pennsylvania were Antonio Gasparini and Lucia Severino.

I took another look at the ship logs for Giuseppes' and Antonio and could only make out some of the names of who they were going to see on Seneca Street. It is pretty clear that young Giuseppe was going to see Vincenzo who is listed as his brother. gguncle Giuseppe was going to see a Chicio [sp?] and ggfather Antonio, a Ricci as far as I can tell. Cannot make out the first names of these 2. I was wondering, given that you are more familiar with Italian names, if you could take a look.

Vincenzo was listed as going to live with brother Pasquale, leaving father Lorenzo. My mother had mentioned 2 Gasparini families combined in Fontecchio for a while- Parents of one died. So maybe they were cousins.

I have sent for my grandfather's birth records in Italy but have not received these yet. I'll let you know when I find out.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Jim,

Took a look back at the manifest and had to count down from the top to be sure I was looking at the right line for destination for each of the Gasparinis...

Seems young Giuseppe is NOT going to brother Vincenzo. That belongs to the line below him.

You'll notice that MANy are going to the same 331 Seneca St. address in Buffalo. That usually means it was a ticket agent or steamship office.

That being said... Giuseppe (line 19) is going to meet cousin Fiorangelo Benedetti. Antonio is meeting uncle Antonio Chirico(?). Giusepped line 21 is going to meet what looks like it MIGHT be Antonino Bieli(?)- but that one's a real longshot...very very hard to read.

Tessa,
Thank you for clarifying the manifests. The Benedetti connection is especialy interesting to me as my grandmother is related to some Benedettis/now in America Bennetts and her people come from Pettorano Sul Gizio which is close.

I had the wrong church of baptism in Fontecchio for Gabriel Gasbarrini. I thought it was Santa Maria della Pace where it is actually San Biagio. I cannot find a San Biagio with a Fontecchio zip code but there is one in L'Aquila with a different zip. Could this be the church or was there another San Biagio that was closed but used to be in Fontecchio?
