Marsico Nuovo, Italy

Post by jessahip »

Hello,

I am searching for my great grandfather's family. I know that he came from Marsico Nuovo how can I find out if I still have relatives there, or if there are any birth of family records from around the 1870s?

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You can search for potential relatives in your ancestral town by searching the Italian white pages:

http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html

Where it says chi/cosa type in the surname you wish to research. Where it says dove type in the name of the town. If anyone is still in the town with your surname, their names and addresses will appear and you can then send letters to them to see if they are related to you.

To help you write letters to potential relatives in Italy, you can use the following website:

You can search the Italian telephone directory for persons with your surname in Marsico Nuovo and then try writing to several or all. See http://www.paginebianche.it/index_en.html to search the directory and then (one of many) sites with form letters for Italian relatives http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... etter.html

All comuni have records going back at least to the 1860's and in many cases 10 to 50 years earlier (unless they were destroyed in WWII which unfortunatley happened in several areas). You can write to:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Marsico Nuovo
Via Municipio n.1
85052 MarsicoNuovo PZ
ITALY

using one of the form letters found at:

http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tter3.html

or

But, apparently, she thinks faster. I blame the three glasses of wine I had with dinner.

There are no Mormon micorfilm records for marisco nuovo so its an indication that ther records may not be available in the town Stato civile or Anagrafe offices.

The town adminstrative and tourist website found at
www.tuttitalia.it/basilicata/provincia-di-potenza and then click Marisco nuovo The town only has 4000+ inhabitants so if there are no records you can contact a potentialrelative ofr two and find out what you want or go to the Potenza provincial archivdes for duplicate documents. =Peter=
