I am getting ready to contact possible relations in Italy. I am starting with the town where relative was born as on the manifest from Ellis Island. I am using the white pages and found 7 people with the same last name.
Can you tell me if the white pages has the zip code on the addresses as it seems like something is missing in the address??????
Do you think it is best to send an International Reply Coupon for return postage or will just my e-mail work and how do you get an International Reply Coupon anyway?
I was wondering if I was doing this correctly and anyother helpful hints you may have???? Thank you.

As with most of the civilized world, postal addresses in Italy are written "CAP Code" first, then comune name, then province code. Also, street name followed by house number. In other words, exactly the opposite of here in the US.
So, something like this:
John Smith
Via Gio. Grimaldi, 13 (or, Via Gio. Grimaldi, n.13)
10070 Rocca Canavese TO
ITALY

You should be able to purchase International Reply Coupons at a local post office. I believe they are currently $2.10 each and can be used by the recipient in Italy to exchange for Italian postage stamps to mail a reply back to you. I personally purchased a number of these from a small local post office where I used to live years ago and never had a problem getting them. At the time, they were $1.05 each and I used to enclose two with each request I sent to the parishes in Italy. Anyway, here's an article I just found which you might find helpful.

You can always send 1 Euro as a gesture and can easily get from some American express office where they exchange currency if you cannot get the International reply coupons. =Peter=

International reply coupons are obtained from the US Post Office. Not all have them on hand......Call your local PO.
