Looking for Izworski - Sczygiel Families

Post by CTyler »

Hi, my Grandpa is 80 and is interested in his history. His parents never told him anything. All he knows, is that his father was Joseph Izworski, who was born in Poland (not sure where). His mother was Mary Sczygiel, she was born in the US, but her parents came over from Poland. Not sure what their first names were, last names obviously Sczygiel. I think my Grandpa's family always lived in NJ but not 100% sure. My Grandpa was born in 1930 give or take a year or two. Mary Sczygiel-Izworski died when she was close to 100 years old. Joseph and Mary had a lot of kids! I believe he may have died when my Grandpa was just a kid/teen, because It think Mary remarried and had more kids. Any help would really be appreciated, so I can give my Grandpa some answers that he never had! Thank you so much. :)

I see that vj suggested you post here. I am going to give you a website that could help. You need to get some idea of when Joseph immigrated. Also I don't know the Polish translation for Joseph. You might also have to register on the Ellis Island site. (It's free)

Here is Ellis Island site.

The Polish translation would be Jozef:

I helped a Polish friend with her genealogy, once.

Can your father provide older siblings names & approx. year of birth?

Does your father have his birth record?......Record should show age of his parents' at the time of his birth.
Researching in San Vitaliano, Napoli, Italy & Armento, Potenza, Italy.

If we can't find Mary Sczygiel's parent's names, you could order her SS Application ($27)

Thank you all for the suggestions. I found out that his father's name was Kazimierz Izworski. Does that help at all? My Grandpa thought his family was from Poland, but I thought I saw some records in Austria. Any help would be appreciated!
