Noto Family in Molochio
Can anyone give me any information on the Noto family in Molochio? I have hit a dead end in my search. My great grandfather was Carmelo Noto born Dec. 14 1878. I have alot of info on him, Ellis Island, all census, his death certificate, and his social security number. I am trying to locate his natualazation, and a copy of his birth record. Ellis Island has him going to visit his brother-in-law in Blair Station PA. All census records have him in Tioga County, New York, where he lived and died. I also would like to find his records for the D.W.&L.R.R., where he obtained his social security number. He also changed his name after arriving to America. He was Malo Vito Noto.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Marie

My Ellis Island record for Malo has him arriving 1902
(line 18) and he was also traveling with some other Noto's and one was Filippo who was around the same age. May have been another brother.

I would advise you to contact your nearest Family History Center and ask to rent the Microfilm for the births civil registration in Molochio:
Title Registri dello stato civile di Molochio (Reggio di Calabria), 1810-1915
Authors Molochio (Reggio di Calabria). Ufficio dello stato civile (Main Author)
Especially this microfilm:
Nati 1866-1899 (births 1866-1899)
VAULT INTL Film 1916488
Checking the microfilm by yourself you may be able to find both Saverio and Carmelo's birth acts and possible (using the same parent's names) other siblings....
this is the link to find your nearest Center:

this is the link to find the town microfilmed:

Re: Noto Family in Molochio

I had used Family History microfich when I was researching my father's side of the family and never even thought about using it for Italian gen. You have helped me so much! I do appreciate it very much. I will be faxing the letter for Malo's birth record, hopefully this evening. (I have to get permission at work, as I don't have a fax machine of my own). If any other info pops up, I will be very grateful.

Also on down is a De Maria with them. Hard to read but looks like Diego De Maria. The Carmelo Noto age 33 may have been an uncle. He may have been bringing the others to work on the railroad, since they seemed to be going to PA.Notofamily wrote:My Ellis Island record for Malo has him arriving 1902
