I have this birth act that is legible, but I can't make enough sense of it.

I have Lorenzo Musto married to Luigia Sbordone in my family tree.

Where does Giuseppe Musto and Luigia Merola fit in?

I'm simply not able to figure out this birth act.

Help, please.

Hi Jim,

This act corrects a previous birth act of July 29, which records the birth of Giuseppe Musto, son of Lorenzo Musto and Luigia Merola; which should have read... son of Lorenzo and Luigia Sbordone... the mother's name was corrected.

BTW - "rettifica" is the word meaning "correction" . It isn't a name.

I just searched my records plus the index, and I find no birth act for Giuseppe Musto in 1867.
Did I miss something or could it have been a different year?

The record you posted above is dated 6 August 1867.
In the record it states that it is a correction dated 29 July "of the current year" for Giuseppe Musto.

Further down is mentioned the date of 15 November 1865...could be the date of the birth act.

The 1867 date may be the date of the notification of the error

Well, I guess it is back to the film again tomorrow.

Is it possible that when they made up the index, they skipped that record because it had been corrected? I have the index scanned and it definitely is not listed.

Do you also have the 1865 index? Not there either?

Why not wait and see if someone has a different take on the record?

That would make more sense if it is in 1865. I don't think that year had an index.
I did look at my list of 1865 births and it isn't there but I could have missed it. Many times the surname Musto is written as Muto and it can be missed.
I will look at that film tomorrow and the date should assist me in finding it.

My understanding is that the date of Aug 6, 1867 is the date that the town of SMCV received the correction of the mother's name in the birth record from the tribunal (court). The tribunal had made the correction on July 29th of the current year. The date of Nov 15, 1865 appears to me, not to be a date of birth, but rather the date of the decree that allowed for the rectifying of such an error. It says "in virtue of article 26 of the Regio Decreto (royal decree) of the 15th of November 1865 on the regulation of the civil state, we have inserted such an order of rectification in the volume of the allegati to the act of birth on page 338.

Anyway, this is what I understand this record is saying. I don't see the date of birth anywhere on this page.

I guess that will explain why I could not figure out this birth act with my limited knowledge of the Italian language.

Just out of curiosity-It took a royal decree to correct a parent on a birth act?

Apparently someone must have needed an accurate copy of the birth act of Giuseppe. Maybe for a wedding?

What other purposes would likely prevail in 1865 to cause this action? How common was this procedure?

Maybe Livio or Luca could shed some light on this subject for us.
