Yes, it's Vertuccio. That I can confirm.

Anything else on the notations on any of the marriage certificates where it is written in free form? Thanks

the word for the day doesn't look long enough to me to be either the 24th or 28th. I am wondering if the word is trenta, but I can't say for sure.

Definitely a difficult read, but I think you did really well with all of the records.

I was reading the Pubblication Act... the date was 24 June 1878...
The right column has the dates of the publications...those are in July...

Went back to look at the Marriage Act..and it is definitely July, but I also cannot read the date. My guess is that is it around the 24 or 28, since the third banns look like they were on 21st.

As I said...we need many eyes, because this is difficult to read. :-)

I didn't notice, but most often that is standard language that speaks of how the act was read to the participants and they signed, or not, depending on their literacy.

We did cover the recognition of the sons on the marriage of Cono and Concetta... :-)

Someone else may see something when they review the documents.

Very interesting information. I appreciate everyone's help. Now I have some more work to do. I need to find out when/where Antonio and Vito were born since the US documents I have say they were both born here but this leads me to think otherwise.

The bottom of Cono and Lucia's marriage record, in addition to mentioning the marriage publications, mentions about the consent of the mother of the groom and the consent of the parents of the bride

Last question...do any of the papers regarding Cono and Concetta mention his first marriage to Lucia Casella ending?

In his marriage act to Concetta, Cono is not labeled as single or a widower, nor is the death record of his first wife listed as being one of the documents presented for the marriage.

Thank you. I know that he was married twice and was told Lucia died young after they had their son, Michele. I was hoping to confirm this.

Again everyone has been so helpful. Thank you.

Why not write directly to Teggiano for Lucia's death record?

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza Municipio
84039 Teggiano (SA)
ITALY

You could also ask them to look for the birth records for Vito and Antonio... :-)

Write in Italian...

I didn't know you could do that. How are they at responding? Are certain towns better than others? I know that Italian bureaucracy can move slowly.

Some are quicker to respond than others. I've gotten my records in 4 - 8 weeks... Several posters here at the forum have had no response, others wait for longer than 8 weeks, but most are pretty good. Not sure about the town of Teggiano...

You don't need to send any money. Some towns may ask after you request the documents. I have never paid for records from the comune.

Worth a try. Just don't ask for more than one or two records per letter. :-D

Me again....this is what has been driving me nuts about the discovery of this marriage certificate from Italy in 1890. I have Cono Russo's citizenship papers and upon reading them again, he indicates he lived in the US continuously since 1887. Obviously someone isn't telling the truth somewhere. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I cannot find any ship records of him in 1887 or at all really, other than a trip in 1904 from Italy to the US with two of his sons but it appears it was more of a visitation since it states he previously spent time in the US. The inconsistencies are driving me crazy!

I have a PDF of the citizenship docs I'd be glad to email someone if they wanted to take a look. In short, it says he has resided continuously in the US since April 4, 1887 and that 4/5 children were born in the US, while the 1890 Italian marriage notice says othewise. Thoughts? Thanks as always.
