LaRosa & Parino

Post by Naples13 »

My Grandmother Angeline La Rosa Naples was born c. 1903 in NY city (but moved to Buffalo, NY). Her parents were Joannis (John) LaRosa and Marie or Maria Parino (or possibly Piranio ~ handwriting is difficult to read) I was wondering is anyone would have any leads on John as he is a big brick wall for my family.

THANK YOU! I think this very well could be. This has been a brick wall because my Aunt (the oldest live relative of my father's) doesn't share & never talks about this. My father who is the "baby" was too young to remember any of these people & his mother Angela passed when he was a teen. The story was that Maria was married to this LaRosa and had a child, Angela in NYC. A man named Alessandro Gambino fell in love with her and "killed" her husband. Noone ever had proof but Marie is buried with her husband Alexander Gambino. I do have a marriage record from the church from 1918 from here in Buffalo but never knew where else to look because the only other clue was Angela was supposedly born in Brooklyn but there was no written proof that I could find. May I ask you where you found this stuff?

And THANK you again!

Glad to have helped!

The birth and marriage record I referenced above were from the free site...
www.italiangen.org

The WWI card (which may or may not be your Giovanni) I found on Ancestry.com, which is a paid subscription site...

No, the marriage certificate was Angela LaRosa...daughter of Maria, step daughter of Alex. I have seen the graves of Alex & Marie. Would there be places to find a possible death certificate for La Rosa? Maybe a newspaper?

Thank you again.

I'm trying to find something on Giovanni LaRosa's death, but it's hard. We don't have a date of death. Where were they living at the time? NYC or Buffalo?

I'm trying to find the family in the 1910 Census but having no luck...

Did Angela have siblings?

Found this record in the NYC death index...

LeRose Giovanni 43 y Apr 17 1909 12119 Manhattan

Without knowing Giovanni's actual date of birth, we can't say this is him.

However, if you request the marriage record and confirm his date of birth, then check against this age in 1909, you can decide whether you want to request this record from NYC...

Just thinking out loud.... if he died in 1909, then I WOULDN"T find them in the 1910 Census!!! Hmmm.

Hi Peg,

Good find on parents' names on marriage record! :-)

Too bad it doesn't also include Giovanni's age :-?

Hi T
Happy I found the parents' names, and the paternal grandmother was also an Angela, so that is good news.

I tried to find them on the NYS 1905 census, just searching spelling variations in the index, but no luck with that. I thought you might get an estimated year of birth for Giovanni that way.
