Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
I am searching for information about my grandfather's family. Antonio Catalano, born in Rapolla left via Naples for Canada in 1909. He may have travelled with one or two brothers. Father's name was Vincenzo and mother was Pepice Raffaela.
Thank you in advance for any information.
Sincerely, Lorie

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
They went directly to Canada? If so, did they go to Halifax Harbour? Also provide a birthdate if you can... Also, if you can provide the brother's names it would help.
As you can see... lots of Antonio's going through Boston Harbor... and that is why a birthdate is important.

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
My grandfather was born in Rapolla in October 1887. It is our understanding he arrived at New York and then Montreal before travelling to Vancouver, British Columbia.
We do not not know any of the brother's names. Two of the sister's names were Maria and Rosa. We believe they stayed in Italy along with an older brother.
There was a family fallout some time before 1923 and if there was any family contact between or among brothers and/or sisters, the rest of us were not aware.
I appreciate any glimmer of information.

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
Hi Lorie,
My name is Frank. I don't know if I can be much help, but let me offer what I have. My grandmother born November 21, 1900 was Angelina Catalano, she was born in a hamlet of the same name ( although I can't find anything on it ) the hamlet is on the Pescara/Abruzzi border. Pescara is adjacent to Puglia where Rapolla is located. So the possibility of a connection is not so remote. Two of my grandmothers sisters Daniela who was older and Christina younger, married brothers surname Agostinelli. They both immigrated to Toronto in Canada. They had planned to come to Westchester County, NY where my grandmother immigrated, but they liked Toronto and stayed. My Greatgrand parents were Valentino and Annunziata Catalano I dont know for sure but thier birth dates were probably between 1865 and 1875. My greatgrandmother Annunziata passed some time in the mid 60s at the age of 97. Her maiden name was Ciccomancini. As I said don't think will help right but if we share any findings maybe we can build on it to find out where we came from. I can be reached at fjb250@yahoo.com. If I find anything new I will try to contact you through this site, unless you tell me different. Also have you checked www.ellisisland.org, if your family came through there they have been recorded and the info is avaiable, there is a long list of Catalanos although most do not come from that region in Italy seems most came from Sicily. Guess I have rambled long enough, so Bye for now . I look forward to the possibility of hearing from you.

Hi Lorie, Frank,
You can also find a few Catalano's here, and Agostinelli.
http://www2.cityofrochester.net/Finance ... N=28273476
Don't use first names.... try different variations of the surname...(catalanA)
Some of the documents have quite a bit of detail when viewed.
Also, very many Catalano's went to Australia, or served time there. Search here, using the surname only. Some files will have a "view digital copy" which shows more detail about the person. You can also request the archives to place a digital file of info up as well. Great site...

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
mfjp & Frank,
Thank you for all the information.I searched the British Columbia archives and had the information listed. Also followed up with a list from Canada 411. Long story short and after many phone calls, most of the people listed in the archives are from another Catalano family with the exception of my grandparents and one person (deceased) who may have been related to my grandfather.
Frank, your information is interesting and may be helpful. We are following up on some other leads and waitng for replies. Will keep you updated if we recive any solid information.

This manifest may mean something...it shows an Antonio from Rapolla going to his brother Michele in Montreal. See line 30

Michele's surname is surely Catalano.
Good luck

Buona, thank you for showing me this ship manifest entry for the Italia.
On the naturalization papers my gf stated he arrived on the vessel Italy.
It is definitely a good tip.

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
Hi Lori and mfjp,
Thank you so much for your post. mfjp you mentioned Catalanos that went to Australia. My grandmothers brother Julio Catalano did go there and later moved here to Yonkers, NY. Thanks mfjp for the Ciccomancini information. It is very possible my grandmother came here not able to read or write, she did learn some after a while but most of the family information was passed by way of mouth from my Italian grandmother to my American/Irish father, so the possibility for errors is pretty good.
Lorie, yes I still have family in the very frigid but beautiful city of Toronto. They are Agostinelli's. Well new friends thank you again, I look forward to talking again, and hopefully connecting the dots of our families.
Frank
