Looking for Michele Palmieri

Post by misschristi16 »

I am looking for my Grandfathers Brother.

Here is what I know.
He was already in America in Connecticut, I believe, in 1912 when my Grandfather Luigi came to America. He came to stay with his brother Michele.

Their parents names were Pasquale Palmieri and Filomena Verrillo (not exactly sure of the spelling -Verillo, Verrilli, have seen it a few ways on our documents).

They were from Corbara, Sessa Aurunca, Caserta Italy.

A brother Orazio joined them both in 1914 (Luigi and Michele)
Not sure if Michele was married. He is the one family member I am stumped on. I found Orazio and he was here for 4 years before his death, and I found my grandfathers, Luigi.

So, if anyone has some information on Michele Palmieri that I might be able to use to extend my search and get past this plateau, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for all your help.

Christi

Ps--I have sent letters to Italy a few times, with the last one being sent about Dec. 10. I am looking for the State of the Family certificate from Corbara. I am hoping that leads to many facts about our family.

Hi Christi :-)

We'll see what we can find...

Do you have any approx. dates of birth?

Name of Luigi's wife?

Did everyone remain in Connecticut?

Well, what I know is this:

Luigi, my great grandfather was born 1894
Orazio's Death certificate said he was born March 7, 1888

I am guessing that Michele was born between them, but not 100% positive.
That is why I am running into a roadblock.

I know he has to be older than Luigi, seeing Luigi went to see him in America, CT in 1912.

LEt me know what you find. Thanks for all your help.

Luigi's wife was Margaret (champi/ Ciampi) Palmieri. Luigi and Margaret resided on 96 Windsor Street Hartford CT.

Michele, I am not sure, I believe he left a wife in Italy. But, I am not positive.

Orazio was single, came to America and died from Influenza a few years later.

So, Michele is the one I need info.

All three of those boys--Luigi, Orazio, Michele, were sons of Pasquale Palmieri and Filomena Verrillo. They lived in Corbara Sessa Aurunca Italy. Caserta

That is about all I know.

Yes, Luigi kept residing in Connecticut. I have his death and Marriage certificate from Hartford CT.

Michele was not found in CT death records. So, he either went home to Italy, or moved to another state (I contacted state records, instead of just hartford, since I was not sure)

Hi misschristi
I know this information is not what you are trying to find and this may have nothing to do with the family you are searching but I have a death record for a Maria Annunziata Palmieri who died in Sant'Elia Fuiumerapido Prov. Frozinone on the 31st August 1862 she wasnt married and was 71 yrs old when she died.
Her father's name was Giacomo and her mother's name was Maria Angela Violo.
The surname Palmieri has come up a few times when researching the Sant'Elia records.
Thought I'd post this information just in case it may link up somewhere in your search.

Hi Christi...

Well, here's a possibility :-)

Michael Palmieri living in Hampden, MA (about 30 miles north of Hartford, CT) in 1920 US Census
He's 33, which would put his DOB at about 1887, making him the oldest brother... His immigration is listed as 1911, which would put him here the year before Luigi.
He is working as a millworker in a mill, which could indicate that he moved to seek work.
Wife named Eleneva (census spelling) and son Frank, 1 year 2 months old, who was born in Massachusetts.

Take a look...

EDITED: I'll leave this post, but according to the manifest Valarie found below, Michele was born about 1882!

Here is the WWI Registration card for the Michael Palmieri in the above 1920 Census...

His birthdate is listed as July 1891 (which would put his actual birthday between the two brothers)

Working in a woolen mill.
Living in Hampden, Monson, MA (same as census)
Married
There is a physical description on the image of the cardback that may help.

Edited: I'm leaving this posted, but manifest Valarie found below for Michele has birth about 1882!

Great find! I just found it, too.

Left wife Carolina in "Corbara"

Wonder if he went back and forth a few times?

Those are all interesting finds.

The ship manifest even has Orazio's name on it. That looks very close to a match!

It shows he came in 1912, but it also states he was here for some years before--is that 11--such as he was here in 1911? Or for 11 years?

Does it show or state that he went home and stayed in Italy?

There are so many Michele palmieris- just as there are pasquales. It became hard to search not knowing if I searched the same person or if they were even the right one.

I love the info--keep it coming! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
