Francesco Pallotta/Vincenza D'Andrea

Post by Biff83 »

Hello all!!

I could use some help. I'm trying to locate the town(s) where my wife's cousins' grandparents were from. I've located the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records which follow for reference, and I've found that they married on 26 Dec 1901 in Manhattan. Francesco's mother's name was Carminella, surname unknown and she died in Manhattan in 1914.
If you check the 1930 census, it shows two cousins with the surname Secato (Segato?) living with them. I'm looking for a 1900 census, a WWI Draft Reg Card for Francesco (he passed away in 1934), and immigration records for Franesco and Vincenza. I did find a possible 1895 record for Francesco.
1895 immigration record for Francesco Pallotta and father? Donatantonio Pallotta:

Hey Biff :D !
Tough one
No luck, except not sure if you've seen this from FamilySearch Beta
May help confirm a manifest for one of them
Perhaps it was an arranged marriage (both from same comune)?

Hi, Valarie! :D

Thanks. I hadn't seen that record from familysearch but it's definitely the same one as on IGG/SteveMorse. Two first daughters named after paternal and maternal grandmothers based on 1910 census.
Interesting that Francesco's father's name was Pietrangelo since eldest son's name on 1910 census is Tony but census shows five children born with four living (although only three are on the census). However, there is a 1907 Manhattan death record for an infant Pietro A. Pallotta born 1905-1906 which could be their first son.

I'm going to see what else I might be able to find based on the names you located on familysearch.

Best,
Biff

Many thanks, suanj and Valarie!!

With the help you both provided, I located this 1897 immigration record for a Carmela Pietraroia , last residence Guardiaregia, heading to New York to join husband Pietro. Still looking for records for Francesco and Vincenza to verify their place(s) of birth but I believe Valarie was correct that the marriage was arranged.

I haven't been able to locate Francesco's immigration record but here's a 1911 record (line 7) for another Francesco Pallotta, born Guardiaregia, who is joining a cousin Francesco Pallotta on Mott Street, same street as the 1910 census posted above.

Page 2

It sure looks like Guardiaregia was Francesco's hometown.

What a Great Find Biff!
It looks like you've got your comune, and suanj's surname analysis worked out
Maybe Pietrangelo's father's name was Francesco
You'll have to let us know what you find in the Guardiaregia records

Hi Biff, thanks to Valarie for helpful inputs, now you can be very sure that really Guardiaregia is the right birthplace..
I believe that this record could be abt Vincenza; the age is a bit wrong (11 old instead of 14 or 15 old)
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 4139020040 and joining at mother Maria, unreadable surname.. just a suggestion...
