Curti

Post by Angela48 »

Arduino Curti, from Bucchianico, Chieti, born Aug 5, 1881. Married Chiaza Santoferraro in Italy. Would like to know when he came to US. Believe it might have been prior to 1907.

If this is the 1910 Census for Arduino and Chiara Curti (spelled Corti on the census) and their son Luigi (age 1) living in Philadelphia...

Arduino lists his immigration as 1906, and Chiara as 1908...

Possible manifest for Chiara Santoferraro in December of 1907...
She is age 25, married and leaving no one in Bucchianico.
Traveling with her son Pietro, age 2. Going to husband/father Arduino Curti in Philadelphia, PA.
So he had to have come prior to Dec. 1907 :-)

On the above manifest for Chiara Santoferraro...

The line above her has Antonio Curti, 17, leaving father Giuseppe in Bucchianico, and going to brother Arduino Curti in Philadelphia.

So she was traveling with her brother-in-law as well as her son.
He may be the Antonio that is listed as a "boarder" living with them on the 1910 US Census.

Here is a possible Naturalization Index card for Arduino from Pennsylvania...

It looks to have a Petition # and a Certificate # and date of admission for naturalization.
You may want to try and request his naturalization records from NARA which will have his Declaration of Intent, and a Certificate of Arrival. These should give you the information you need about his arrival if we can't locate a manifest...

This looks to be the death certificate for the son born in Italy. Listed as Pietro on the manifest, age 2...
Pietro does not appear on the 1910 US Census with the family, and is not listed on Arduino's Naturalization Petition.

Death date is February 1908
Cause of death is what looks like Laryngial Diphtheria and stamped "contagious"

Spelling of names throughout this document is terrible. You can check address, etc. against what you know to confirm or reject this record as connected to Arduino Curti.

Thank you so much Tessa for all of your hard work and quick response. Antonio is my grandfather and Adruino's brother. My uncle Lou was born in 1909 (according to his headstone). So I believe your investigative research is correct. I'm excited to review your findings!

While the above states that Chiara left no one behind, she did have a brother, Camillo, who at some point did come to the US.

Once again, thank you (Grazia tanti!)

Prego!!!! :-)

BTW - The correct spelling of Chiara's surname in Bucchianico is SANTOFERRARA

I'll look for the brother :-)
