Hi and welcome.........
you don't specify which country.....for Italy all records are in town of origin. Do you know the town of origin? If you can provide the name we can provide you with the address.....if you do not read or write in Italian there are also form letters to use for your request.

Hi:
1-if you have the data necessary for to search in Common, and you ask this search in Common by email, well if the Common find it( depend if your data are just), well the Common reply you by email and also send you the certificate by normal post, are necessary for to have the certificate in your hands around 30 or 40 days ( just time of search, reply and posting).. some Common request the payment of certificate (around 1, 50 euro + or -) some other Common no request payment.. this are an free choice of the Commons in Italy...

2- if with your data, the Common not find it, well are necessary an search by the expert... and this I can say not, why I know not your data and your need... I live in Molise region...
many regards, suanj

Hi Soledadc,

Apparently the town your ancestors are from is Castrovillari. Castrovillari is the town, Cosenza is the District, Calabria is the Province. An example would be the the town of Norristown, in Montgomery County, in Pennsylvania.

Next there is microfilm that you can order and rent through your local Family History Center. It costs about $3.50 a roll. On the microfilm you will see copies of the actual Birth Acts, Marriage Acts, and Death Acts of your ancestors as well as those who were living in the town at that time.

Now the microfilm is in Italian, but you can get by and figure out how to look for your ancestors yourself. A good book to get is "A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering your Ancetors", by Lynn Nelson.

The microfilm link is below:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

If you have questions, just ask. Everyone here is happy to help.

Have a good one.
