Looking for Lamantia/LoBocchiaro information

Post by theograd »

I need names, dates, etc. of my grandfather's (my father's side) parents. (I have much more on my mother's side, and will pursue another time).

Grandfather's name:
Giuseppe Lamantia
Born in Sicily: March, 1867.
Married in Sicily: circa 1893
No true record of either event, possibly, but not necessarily, in Misilmeri.
(Above dates came from passenger and New York census data.)

Left Palermo, with wife, Antonina LoBocchiaro, on the Bolivia, 3/31/1898.
At that time, lived in Misilmeri.
Destination address in New York City was to a Ciro Guccione. I have no idea who that was.
Died possibly 2/27/1908 in NY, or 1904-1910?, somewhere else. Wife, Antonina:
Born: either April or May, either 1872 or 1873.
Her parents as listed on her NY death certificate:
Luigi L[a]Bocchiaro...incorrect spelling?
Josephine [looks like] LaCrisa [the C and i could be a G or an e]. Writing not clear on certificate.
Children's names: Angelo (Angolino?); Julius; Pietro; Joseph (my father); Gerolama, all b. in NYC.

HI and welcome to the site.
Since they came from Misilmeri,Palermo Sicily I would take the chance and order the microfilm from Family History Library of Missilmeri birth/ marriage/ death records( Nati/Matrimoni/Morti) it would only cost $5.75 and only time to see if they might have been born there and there would be a wealth of info if there records are in those films Heres the film numbers from the FHL click on the prompt

About Italian records click on the prompt

Also if you look at that manifest of Antonina LoBocchiaro, on the Bolivia, 3/31/1898 thye are travelling with Filippa Guccione/female age 12 so maybe it is one of your relations.

Thank you so much, Marty or is it Marty aldefio?
I will check out the websites later today. I don't have much time right now.
I did have the Bolivia information already and it IS correct as far as I can tell.

Blessings, Theograd

Can request copy of DC at this site... (Certificate # 7004)

Yes, I have that information. However, as I do believe the birth year is accurate, the 1908 year does not seem to be close enough to reflect his birth month/year of March 1867. He would be 40 yrs and 11 months old in 1908, almost 41, not 39. So I'm not so sure it's the same person.
