Success in Newark! ------ 2nd appt

Post by JPMessina44 »

Hey There, If you remember my Success in Newark...Almost post, thats me! I had my follow up in Newark yesterday as I had to update my great grandfathers death certificate back to his Italian name, his bday was off of 1 day, and mothers maiden name was incorrect. I got this updated within 2 weeks from the Department of Health NYC...so was ready with the changes.

I did not see the same lady as I did the first time, so I was expecting to walk in, hand the document over and walk out.

Didnt work that way, I met with Carmen this time....quite a pleasany lady but she went over the notes from the previous person I met with and actually went over my documents one by one AGAIN!! Kind of good that she did cause the original person actually wrote my ggpa naturalized in 1925 vs 1931, which would have made ineligible, close call. But Carmen caught a possible issue with my great grandmothers name cause on my ggpa death she was Maria and on her marriage was Maddelena. I explained that her full name was Maria Maddelena, and then she asked me for my great grandmothers birth certificate from Siracusa. Hence why it is sooooo important to get those non-direct line, ieven if it is not needed.....in my case they needed it to verify a direct line family member!!
She also reviewed all of my translations again which the original person did as well. She found some mistakes which makes sense cause I used the templates online and did them myself, but she ended up letting them slide.

Now for the big question, next steps and how long does it take? She is enetering my information into the system (she made me fill out the other forms whle I was there, both can be found on the website, AIRE and one other one as well.) She said that I should write to the comune (sant'antonio, Catania) in 1-2 months, they will send me my birth certificate, and at that point I am to make an appointment to go in for my passport. Stupid me, was so excited hat I didnt ask how long from when I go in to get my passport. But nonetheless, I finally did it! Super stoked, and thanks to everybody oin this site that helped me and supported my venture to dual citizenship!!!! I credit it to everybody on here!

Brava!

I recently went with my brother to his Newark appointment and we were told that his wait should be about 2 months - from initial appointment to being able to make another for his passport. Nothing was mentioned about having an Italian birth record for the passport appointment, but I plan to visit the comune in a couple weeks to see if I can get a copy anyway.

Congratulations, and I hope your wait is a short one! :D
