Re: Help Translating - Atti di Nascita
The conscription list for the male born in 1862 shows an Angelo Marino, born in Tarsia Feb 1, 1862 to Carolina Marino and father unknown. He could be the father of Ferdinando...

Livio,
In case you did not know, there is also a newer version of the Portale della Storia degli Italiani site at http://poster.beniculturali.it/poster/action.do
The big advantage of this new site is this:
Click "Places"
Enter a name, for example, Malvito. Click Submit.
On the next page, click "malvito" in results list.
On the next page, click "View people associated with this term"
On the older site, it can be difficult to find a person if you do not know the exact cognome or if the record was not transcribed correctly. Here, you can see a list of all persons in the comune.
More sites are coming: Udine, Montova, Latina...

More Translation Help Please - Atti di Nascita
Thanks to all your help I was able to look at the film tonight that I ordered from the LDS and found the births (I think) for Angelo and Giuseppe Marino.
Could someone please translate the entire document. Then maybe the hand written words for the other.

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j39 ... -Birth.jpg
Do they have the same mother?
Is there a father?
Do they have the birth dates?

Re: Help Translating - Atti di Nascita
These are actually the records of baptism at the Church of San Nicola.
Both Giuseppe and Angelo were born on 1 February and both were baptized on 2 February 1862.
Angelo was the oldest, born at 4 PM; then Giuseppe born at 5 PM.
Mother is listed as Carolina Marino, and "padre incerto" - father uncertain

Re: Help Translating - Atti di Nascita
Tessa and Livio - thanks again for all your hard work in helping me out. This is starting to confirm a "story" that was passed down. My wife's maiden name is Marino and Angelo would be her great grandfather. Her mother told her that somewhere along the line, a family member had an "affair" so to speak with a priest and when the children were born they took HER name which would be Marino. They also said something about any girls born took the father's name? I know it sounds confusing but this info you provided starts to make me think there was some truth to it.
I saw other Marino's on the film I was looking at last night from Tarsia. I'll have to go back and see if I can turn up other children with a mother Carolina Marino -not sure how? Wow, this makes thingsmuch for difficult now.
So I would assume if I locate the Atto di nascita the father would be "uncertain" too.
Thanks again!
