Thanks nuccia, and vj.
vj, any idea what her first name is? Can you tell whether it is Francesca or Francisca like nuccia said?

I agree with VJ, I see Francesca Cangialosi.vj wrote:From Ellis Island search:

And there are tons of people with the surname Cangialosi coming from Borgetto, and different parts of Sicily.

Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Thank you guys (or girls), I shall add her to my family tree.
Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
I did just look at the birth record for Francesco Petruso again. No birthdate is provided for Domenico Petruso or for Maddalena Vicari, but their address in 1879 was:
la Via Giglio, 25
Borgetto
Don't know if that'll be any help or not, but it's something.
I'm hoping to visit Borgetto this summer. I wonder if there will be a way to look at some of the old records while there...

Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Thanks, Stephanie. Any idea who Domenico's parents were? (I might've asked you this before.) That'll help me so I don't have to have an "Unamed Person" in our family tree. Just for the record, we are 4th cousins according to the relationship calculator that came with my family tree software.
Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
I don't know who they are. Domenico is currently where my research stops...I don't need to go back any farther to apply for citizenship. I'm sure those records are in the Stato Civile in Borgetto, but I'm unsure of how to get ask for the right ones (we don't have a lot of info). I'll keep you updated should I find out more.

Once again thanks for your help. It seems like wherever I'm at (on the internet), you seem to follow. Yesterday I was at my grandma's and we were searching for Petruso's at myspace and yours popped up.
Though she said that she didn't ever hear of a Stephanie in the family, so I told her how I think we're related.
Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Ha! That's funny! I probably haven't done enough in life for people to have "heard of me." I'll bet she's heard of my dad and Aunt Sandy, though. They were born and raised in Meadville and knew everyone there. My little bit of the family has been in Erie since before I was born.
P.S. Please don't judge me on my myspace page

Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Once again, thank you everyone for your help.
Because of this site, several people have emailed me with some information. One of which may be able to help me trace the family back to the 1500s if we can find a link between the two cities.
To try and compile all of the Petruso information, I've created a website. I haven't completed the information area yet since I just started making it today, and I may get my own domain eventually.

I had a chance to look through it quickly and thought it was great so far. I'm sure it will do well.
Best of luck and let us know how things go.

My name is Domenic Petruso. I am 30 years old. I am named after my grandfather who came to the U.S. sometime around 1920-1925. My father is Fioravante, my uncle was Benedetto, my aunt is Josephine. I have many questions.
Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Hi Domenic!
Welcome to the forum.
If you have questions, then ask away and we will try to help. Thats what we're here for.

Hi Dominic, welcome!
I not sure where you fit into the Petruso family tree. Is your grandfather from Borgetto? Where in the USA did your family settle? I (along with moneyman2010mn) probably know more about the Petrusos than most, so please ask away. I'll help however I can.
Cheers,
Stephanie

Re: Petruso/Salvia - Palermo Region
Hi, I just randomly plugged Petruso into google as it's my surname and I had nothing better to do, and I came up with this. The address you have there is my Nonno's (Nicolo Petruso) and as far as I know has been in the family for generations! I know very little about my dad's side of the family so this is quite exciting. When I saw Francesco and Domenico it also took me back a bit, but then I looked at the dates. My uncle Domenico (born late 1950s) and Great Uncle Franco (Francesco) were both born at that address. I know this is quite an old post but if I can help at all with the recent generation I'd be happy tosxp215 wrote:I did just look at the birth record for Francesco Petruso again. Nicolo had 4 boys (and some girls who were either still born or died before they were 2) called Domenico, Salvatore (My dad), Antonino and Nuncio with his wife Rosa Lupo who died shortly after giving birth to Nuncio. Because she died when the boys were young they were taken into state care until my dad was 11, so he says he doesn't know much about his family history, but to be honest I haven't asked him properly. Domenico now lives in Ravenna with his family, Nuncio lives in Sardinia with his and Antonino and my dad both live in England.
I'd love to learn more about the family, especially as it's such an uncommon name!
