I hit the jackpot and managed to find Pietro's parents. However, I believe that his mother was french. Her surname was Cherette. The problem is now that I have no idea where she was from, if indeed she is french. I think I am going to have to find a marriage certificate for Frank and Elizabeth (parents). Any suggestions as to how I could find this?
Hi! If it is a Castle Garden manifest, I can certainly look it up for you... where did you find this information?

Just copy and paste the information you found for Pietro's parents (date and firstname etc) and I will link it here.

Wouldn't an American death certificate have parental information? I have never ordered one, so I am not sure how to answer you... but I am sure someone will! :P

Also, will look for manifests later today too...

Oh yes, one more question... do you know if Lina had another given name? I always thought "Lina" was a short form of another given name... and as for James... I will look for Giacomo or Vincenzo Vercellino...

Found this information at this website... within seconds!!

http://213.212.128.168/radici/ie/defaultie.htm ... now with this info, I will look for a Castle Garden manifest...

It's gotta be them!! James was just a baby... and the census information matches the info from the above immigrant data base...

Mabe Lina was short for Pascalina... or maybe Pasqualina...

1882 is the year they arrived, but I think we got our wires crossed here. Pietro and Johana Vercellino, came to the US with at least 3 children went to Illinois/Indiana and then to Negaunee Michigan, where they both died in the early 1900's. The parents that I found were for Pietro, and he was born in 1845, so I figure their birthdates were at least 1820's. And I kinda doubt that they came to the US but I could be wrong on that. I kinda doubt it though, as I havent found either one of their names in any searching that I have done. I found his parents names from his death certificate that someone looked up for me, in Michigan. This is why I was trying to figure out how to proceed now. The area they were from, is right near the border of Italy and France. Which is why im thinking that his mother, may very well have been a French citizen at least initially.

Does any of this make sense?

Let me know what you think

Yes it does make sense... Maybe the surname is "Charette"... it is more common??

Maybe you could find some info at the link below... since you mention the parents -born about the 1820's... I'm still concentrating Vercellino's of the late 1880's...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp

--------
Over the weekend, I had mentioned that I would look for a manifest with the children... and that is why I posted that one today... not sure if you had seen that one...

The names of the 3 children are there...the birthdates match... only the father's birthdate would be 1852... not 1845... as on census :? Oh well.. close but no cigar??

Maybe someone else can advise you further...

Greetings from North Idaho,
My grandmother was Catherine Vercellino Wessels. She was Peter & Johana's daughter.
This site has really helped me find alot of info on the Vercellino family.
And I thank you so much.
I have a photo albem passed from Catherine to my Mom Joan of the Vercellino's from the 1930's to 1940's. Recently, I have found a photo of the Vercellino children dated the day after Peter passed. All the children are listed on the back by first names.
It includes Frank.
I am very excited about this find and really want to share it.
I have a family tree on Ancestry.com the tree is McEvers.
If you email me I would be proud to share it.
Again, Thanks so much for info you folks have provided.

Sincerly, Woody McEvers
