Carmine Rocco Lucchetta
Hi,
Thank you for the great website!
I am hoping someone can help me find more info on
Carmine Rocco Lucchetta
born july 31 1894 in Vincenzo La Costa Calabria Italy.
His regiment was No 34026
army file number 0761619 or 2553717
His son is now 73 years old and lives in Toronto canada area. He has 5 brothers and sisters living in Toronto. They have 15 kids and 32 grandkids and counting under the Lucchetta name.
they are planning a trip of 25 people for to the town of Vincenzo La Costa for September 2010. They want to see the town 1 more town before they get to old to travel back to see the motherland and where it all started for there father Carmine. History and culture are very imprtant for the family as they will always have Italian blood in the family.
I was hoping someone can help me find more info on Carmine and the family history or maybe help me find someone in the town that can host us and give us a tour and the history behind the Lucchetta name in this town.
Any info or help directing us to the proper info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time

Hello!
You didn’t mention which Canadian records you already have.
Just in case, here’s a 1921 marriage act from York County.
It lists this Carmine’s parents’ names as Michele Lucchetta and Angela Bartolo
Witnesses are Francis and Camilla Lucchetta
Valarie
(click here) possible 1921 marriage act

Hello
!
It’s great that you have Carmine’s parents' names.
What record do you have with his birth location?
The reason I ask - all records in Italy are kept at the comune level.
We can check to see if they are on microfilm available from FamilySearch
And/or you can write to the comune for them.
These records (acts) really give very detailed information (including address & occupation)
Below is a possible ship manifest but with the birth location as Rende
Valarie

Possible 1912 ship manifest
Several Lucchetta’s all headed to Toronto:

page 2

I checked this online website for Cosenza and couldn’t find any records for Carmine Lucchetta
(between 1890-1900):
ARCHIVIO DI STATO DI COSENZA
They may not be online yet or they’re transcribed incorrectly
This is a neat site requiring a one-time registration
There are 295 records for 'Lucchetta' (between 1800 & 1900)

Carmine Michele Luchetta and Angela Paolina Di Bartolo were married in 1876 in S. Vincenzo.
Carmine Michele was born in 1853 and the son of Saverio Luchetta and Albina Chiappetta. No info on Angela.
I've been to S. Vincenzo several times to visit family members, let me know if you want more information.

Hi,
I found some more ancestors if you're interested.
Saverio Maria Luchetta and Albina Rosa Chiappetta were married on October 07, 1848. Saverio was the son of Michele Luchetta and Rosa Madotta. Albina was the daughter of Giuseppe Chiappetta and Carmela (?, I want to say Bifano)
Also Carmine Michele's birthday is July 01, 1853.

Re: Carmine Rocco Lucchetta
Not sure if you are still around or looking for info...
But I found info Angela Paolina Bartelli. She was born January 26, 1856 in S. Vincenzo, the daughter of Gaetano Bartelli and Costanza Esposito Di Lio. They were married in 1849. Costanza was a foundling with no parents known, but Gaetano was the son of Ignazio Bartelli and Angela Onofrio. Ignazio died June 30, 1849, the son of Giovanni Bartelli and Anna Spizzirri.
Angela Onofrio died July 02, 1850 and was the daughter of Saverio Onofrio and Orsola Di Lio.

Hi jack182183 ,
Thank you and vj for all your info.
A group of 15 Lucchetta's will be in San Vicenzo on Sept 3 2010 for the day.
I was wondering if there is a name of a church where any of them got married or an address where they may have lived?
Any monuments we should look at or a place to eat??
Any info is good info.
Thanks for your help

To jack182183,
My Great Grandparents on my Grandfather's Mother's side had the exact same names. What are you relations to these people?

Re: Carmine Rocco Lucchetta
Hi,
I just wanted to give you an update on the Lucchetta Family trip back to the town's of the San Vincenzo la Costa and Lucchetta in Calabria.
It was a fantastic trip!!!!
The adventure of Driving up from Sicily and finding these towns hidden in the mountains was an adventure in itself but when we arrived and started sightseeing a local came up and asked why we are here in this small town. After we told them the story of the Lucchetta family who had lived in this small town and now have over 35 Lucchetta's who live in Canada have come back to see their roots, they opened the small commune office and dug up records from the early 1800's about the family. Others came to give us a tour of the town after some conversations with other locals we actually found the house that was over 300 years old that the Lucchetta family was raised in. The Church where their past family was married open up records and shared the building with us for over an hour. The Canadian Lucchetta's and the locals had very emotional moments and some came to tears about the history and Family info they were involved with.
We finnished of with an outdoor meal that was Fantastic!!
Thanks to everyone who gave me info on this site and the locals of San Vincenzo La Costa and Lucchetta, without your help this could not be posssible.
Again, FANTASTC TRIP!!!!!!

I'm glad the trip turned out well! I'm also glad you could find your ancestors and appreciate the history. I wish more people would visit southern Italy, especially their ancestor's homeland.
I've always been treated very well in S. Vincenzo and like you said they open up records in the church and civil registration in a heartbeat. I hear stories of other towns and churches that aren't so friendly...but I think southern Italy is an exception.

Re: Carmine Rocco Lucchetta
I just caught your post as I am thinking of a trip to San vincenzo.
As I was looking through my genealogy notes of my Great G father who was born in San Vincenzo but immigrated to Toronto in abt 1890 I realized we had a connection.
My GG father was Francisco Scarlato and his Cousin was David Spizziri whos sister was Mary Lucchetta all of Toronto. David was married to Theresa and are both buried in Mount Hope Cemetery with my GG father Scarlato. David's daughter was Jean Doyle.
Does any of this ring a bell??
Your Trip sounded wonderful we were thinking we needed a driver to go up there but now I wonder if we should just drive. Did you stay in the area?
Thanks Chris
