GIOVACCHINI or MENCARELLI Family Search

Post by lindag »

Sorry, I do not know how to respond to the responses. But, I would like to add additional information to my original posting.

I am searching for Giuseppe Giovacchini or Zelinda Mencarelli both from Badia, Pozzeveri, Lucca.

They had at least 3 sons, Angelo, Gino, and Rocco. The sons migrated to Chicago, IL area first, and then moved to Utah. I have found birth and death dates on Angelo 1894-1958 and Gino 1899-1979 , none on Rocco. I also have immigration dates on Angelo.

I have already searched familysearch.com and ancestry.com without success. Any other ideas or websites is appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply and assistance. Yes, they were all born in Badia and resided first in Chicago, then in Idaho, then in Utah. The parents Giuseppe Giovacchini and Zelinda Mencarelli did not migrate. But, I have been unable to find any birth, death or any information on them. Do you know any websites I can find information on them?

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

You could try this link here... to search for names...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp

or

to visit a Family History Center....
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

If you already have all your Italian - American ancestral information, your best bet for now is to order film... from the FHC.. and start looking for Giuseppe and Zelinda.

You could do a "google" search for websites that feature BADIA... but getting information of those people who never made it to the USA... just too difficult...

You did the right thing by posting at this forum... who knows, someone down the road... will see your post and might answer with further info. That would be nice... I have seen this happen a few times.

To do a place search...

Just an update. I found that Badia no longer exists, as of 1925. It was incorporated into Caponnori (or Altopascio). Is that familiar to anyone? And, if so, any ideas on how to obtain records? Thank you.

Here is a link to the Comune Altopascio:

http://www.comuni.it./pbase/?IDcom=351

The Lds has a good outline on writing to Italy for records:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/ ... talian.ASP

However, microfilm is available for you to research at your local Lds library. By using this microfilm you can trace all family as far back as the dates allow.....writing to Italy and requesting records can be very fustrating.......you may or may not get a reply, :?

The following is an excellent outline by Trish for ordering and using microfilm:

Posted: Sat Jan 15, 2005 11:09 pm Post subject: Steps on obtaining microfilm from a Family History Center

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Everyone,

I want to explain the proper way of obtaining microfilm from a Family History Center (aka – Latter Day Saints)

1. You go to www.familysearch.org/E...t_fhlc.asp and click on place search and type in the town you are looking for. Click the word search.

2. A list of the results will show up. (Remember there can be more than one town especial with a Saint’s name – ex: Santa Caterina dello Ionio and Santa Caterina Albanese).

3. Click on the link. A new page will appear where it will state (Name of Town) and Civil Registration.

4. Click on that link and a new page will appear which states “Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910â€Â

The person from this site might be of interest to you... also has Giovacchini roots... and may welcome an email... sounds like a friendly person too. Not sure if his email is current.
