need assistance translating day & month of death

Post by 3sunshine »

Can anyone help decipher the day and month of death? The death was recorded on 13 Aug but not able to figure out the 2 handwritten words for what the witnesses declared were the actual day and month of death - same word for both?

Could you post the entire document? It really helps us to decipher the handwriting when we can compare it to known words... :-)

Until then... it looks like the word "sopra" meaning "above" is written on the day and month lines... So it would also be 13 August if that is what you see...

The hour looks like "tredici" or 13th, which would be 1 PM.

I will do so in the future whenever possible - the .jpg of the whole record cannot be uploaded/attached, I keep getting an error message (file might be too big). The word does look like "sopra" now to me, too, so thank you very much for your help! I could only make out the "s" and was really scratching my head over it. The people on this forum are wonderful!

The first is written "di sopra" and the second "sopra :-)

As for posting images...
Try using a free imagesharing site. A great one, used by many here at the forum, is www.postimage.org
No need to register :-)
Just browse, choose "family safe" and upload.
Copy and paste the code for "thumbnail - forum"

Good luck!

Not necessary - if after looking at the handwriting in the rest of the document, you still think that the word is "sopra", as I do, then I think I can put Antonino Di Salvo to rest, lol.

Just to add, you will often see the word "ieri" here, meaning yestrday, and sometimes even "altroieri" meaning the "day before yesterday".

Thanks! I wasn't familiar with "Altroieri." For any newbies out there that are newer to translating Italian records, I keep the following list bookmarked on my laptop and readily available when I am researching to help with the dates, times of day and ages - there are links to other useful word lists in the table of contents at the top of the page.
