hello all
this is a last desperate shot at finding my uncles' (by marriage) father.
all I know is
the family name was CASSARO and he was in the Italian Airforce during WW2.
He was a POW and held in Britain where he met ALICE SARAH LEWIS and fathered Luigi Lewis (my unlce), given that Luigi has his mothers family name it is assumed that CASSARO and Alice never married.
CASSARO was repatriated back to Italy after the war.
Alice was born in Ringmer, East Sussex, UK in 1904 and we believe that CASSARO was born circa 1920.
Luigi can't even say if he was born in the UK or in Italy or even when but believes he was born in Italy circa 1947. Luigi is also known as Louis
That is all the info we have and this is a desperate attempt at finding more.
heres hopeing that someone can help on this one.
Paul

What resources have you used to date? If he was held in a POW camp in Britain, you should be able to request information from the International Red Cross: http://www.icrc.org/web/forms/webforms. ... E200322DD7. I've been successful requesting information even when I wasn't directly related to the individual.
Also, have you explored any archives in the UK?

Maybe a long shot, but what the heck.
At http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl, I found a record for a Louis Lewis, mother's maiden name also Lewis, born between January-March, 1946 in the Bridgewater district of England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridgwater).

From your post, it would appear that Louis/Luigi does not even possess his own birth certificate; how has he managed to get through life thus far without one?
Where does Louis/Luigi reside now? England? Italy?

it is abt your same search?
Seeming strange that Alice went in USA, because by genealogic tree on ancestry.com she died in UK:
Alice Sarah Lewis
Birth 24 January 1904 in Ringmer, East Sussex, United Kingdom
Death 1982 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Inghilterra
by BMD:
NAME: Alice Sarah Lewis
BIRTH: Jan 1904 - Lewes, Sussex, East Sussex
You know the POW camp where Cassaro was?
You know the first name?
Cassaro: I believe that is a sicilian surname
however here a Cassaro pow in UK:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/york/hi/peo ... 027709.stm
("Ricordo Cassaro Giovanni Italia"; really the name is Giovanni Cassaro and the word
"Ricordo" means "souvenir" and it is not the first name)

Re: Cassaro (ww2 italian airforce)
If you don't mind spending a few British pounds, you might want to order a copy of Louis Lewis' 1946 birth record (see my earlier post) in order to see if it lists the correct mother.
See http://www.somerset.gov.uk/irj/public/s ... 07c9109c9c
Alternately, maybe they will look it up and tell you before ordering if it is the correct certificate... Try contacting bridgwaterro@somerset.gov.uk

Re: Cassaro (ww2 italian airforce)
What jobs in the airforce do not require a security clearance? Just wondering. Is there a list somewhere with the type of clearance needed for each airforce job?
