Is Pilone an Italian surname?

Post by QuestionSleep »

Is Pilone an Italian last name? If it it what does it mean?

My father thinks his grandmothers maiden name was either Pilloli or Pilone. I don't know if either of them are, or if they are spelled right.
If somebody could tell me if it is or not it would be helpful.

I checked Ellis Island. The following is the result for Italians:

There were 68 Pilone
7 Piloni
0 Pilloli

The spelling Piloli may be a mispelling of the surname Piloni. Both the names Pilone and Piloni are quite common in the Lombardy and Piedmont regions. Do you know where your ancestors were from in Italy?

My mother's maiden name is Pilone. Our Pilone family is from Abruzzi. Is your family from this area?
