Platania, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy

Post by sgc777 »

I have many ancestors from Platania, Italy. The surnames I am researching are:

Rizzo
Costanzo
Cerminara
Fragale

Possible Ancestor Surnames:
Nicolazzo
Bonadio
Di Cello
Gallo

Is anyone on this board from Platania? Has anyone been to Platania? I was wondering how easy it would be to get a marriage record from 1899 or 1900 from Platania directly.

Is there anyone on this board with common ancestor surnames from Platania?

:)

Write to:

Michele Vaccaro
L'Ufficiale Dello Stato Civile
Comune di Platania
Provincia di Catanzaro
Via Roma, 18
CZ Italia

Email: comune.platania@tiscalinet.it

We received a birth certificate from 1894 and a marriage certificate from 1892. Mr. Vaccaro was very responsive and sent these documents free of charge within three weeks.

I recommend in your letter that you provide as much information about the family as possible, including names of parents, siblings, and their birth dates if you have them. The names you listed are very common in Catanzaro. If you provide additional info, Mr. Vaccaro will be able to narrow it down to your specific clan. The name "Gallo" turned up to be a great, great-grandmother on the marriage certificate we received for a great-grandfather named "Perri".

Thank you for your reply. Did you e-mail your request or did you mail a letter? Did you write your request in English? Lastly, I do not want to be too "pushy"......I need about 4-6 birth certificates. Is that too much to ask for at one time?

You will usually get better results if you write a letter, in Italian, and only ask for one or two records at a time... :-D

You can follow-up with an email to see if they received your request.

My parents are from Nicastro and my surname is Costanzo and have ancestors named Bonadio. I'm not sure if this thread is still active but I thought I would try to connect.

Hello MichaelC

You might wish to start your own thread so more members will see it.

Can we help you search for ancestors?
