I am trying to find information on my great great grandfather, Sam Messina, I found some papers my grandmother has. He was arrested in Alabama for murder in in like the early 1900's not sure of the date, I have a part of the news article, he ran back to Italy to keep from being hung, but I can't seem to find anything on him on the interent, maybe i'm just not looking in the right spots, could anyone help me with this?

Hi Beth,
searching abt your Sam Messina, I searched abt the Messinas in Alabama, and because Sam first name was used in the USA in place of Salvatore italian first name, so your Sam was really Salvatore Messina;

the Messinas in Alabama coming from different sicilian places; and no many Messinas in Alabama.....

I found the 1910 census of Sam Messina




and I believe that your Sam(Salvatore) was the brother of Onofrio Messina aka Norman Messina in USA;

Onofrio/Norman coming from Campofranco (Caltanissetta province, Sicily, IT), born on 8 feb 1883 as he declared on Declarations of Intention:

It says on the manifest line #7 he left behind his father Giuesppe in Campofranco
If that is the right birth record birth record of Salvatore Messina in Campofranco, born on 17 May 1887 son of Giuseppe Messina and Rosalia Falletta
Possible marriage record 1878 Oct 5th from Campofranco. Giuseppe Messina son of Paolo Messina and Paolina Scribano all from Sutera and his wife Rosalia Falletta daughter of Onofrio Falletta and Vincenza Pera from Campofranco
