Re: Records burned in Carpino
Thanks ricbru for the info. My problem seems to be I know he was born in Foggia, but I'm not 100% certain of the comune as searches for Carpino and Rodi birth records have turned up nothing. Is there a way to request a search for any Pasquale D'Errico born in a particular time frame that I may decide which one is the likely person?

Re: Records burned in Carpino
Archivio di Stato di Foggia also keeps military records and military draft cards, maybe the archivist can check them, and see where it is located the right place of your ancestor.
I hope it helps

Here there is a list of D'Erricos died in WW1 all coming from Foggia area http://www.cadutigrandeguerra.it/Albo_O ... 17/159.jpg
there are few D'Erricos son of Michele, born in Ischitella, Monte Sant'Angelo.
Other D'Errico where born at Carpino, San Severo, Torre Maggiore, Rodi Garganico, Volturino and Apricena.
Just a suggestion.
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

Re: Records burned in Carpino
In my experience (Frosinone) the Archivio di Stato has only the originals of those records filmed by the LDS and not anything newer. Certainly nothing past 1899 unless it came from a Tribunale.

Re: Records burned in Carpino
My ggf was born either 1889 or 1891, which is prior to 1899, so are you saying it should be okay or am I misunderstanding you?

Re: Records burned in Carpino
Eric, not problem,
you can check at Archivio di Stato di Foggia,
for the birth records are from 1866 to 1899,
military records are from 1873 to 1927 (birth years),
military draft cards are from 1885 to 1902
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

Re: Records burned in Carpino
Thnx Riccardo. I've emailed Archivio di Stato di Foggia about those records. I previously emailed them saying he was from Carpino, but they said they couldn't find anything. But now I am thinking he may have been born in either Carpino, Rodi Garganico, Foggia, or anywhere else in Foggia, so I said he was born in the Province of Foggia rather than a specific comune. Hopefully they will be able to find it that way.

Re: Records burned in Carpino
Eric, province of Foggia has 61 municipalities,
it means there are 61 civil record's books of birth for each year, same thing for military records and military draft cards.
So, unless Archivio di Stato di Foggia has a database, the archivist is not going to search all those books for you.
I deeply suggest you to contact them again, being specific at least on the following municipalities: Ischitella, Monte Sant'Angelo, Carpino, San Severo, Torre Maggiore, Rodi Garganico, Volturino and Apricena.
If you say generically "born somewhere in Foggia area" they are not going to research for you. I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

Re: Records burned in Carpino
thanks for the heads up riccardo. Rodi Garganico said there were no records found. I looked up the records for Carpino with the Family Research Centre's microfilms and found nothing. I've seen one item on familysearch.org's database for my ggf that said he was born in 1889 rather than 1891 and was born in Foggia rather than Rodi or Carpino. This may be highly incorrect, and the reference to foggia may just mean the province, not the city, but I wonder if it may be in the city of foggia? If so, what comune should I check with?
I'll give them a few municipalities I think it may be located at. I just assumed they would have a database, my mistake.

Yes Eric, when you write to Archivio di Stato di Foggia,
give them all the towns I have suggested you, and request to
check for birth records, military records and military draft cards
between 1889 and 1891. Remember that every single municipality has
its own civil records, and there is nothing like like a provincial civil record office, every single birth, marriage, death and military draft cards where issued considering the datas coming from that municipality where birth occurred, I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

Re: Records burned in Carpino
ok I emailed them this time with a list of those comunes, including the comune di Foggia. Hopefully they won't feel bombarded by my emails. It would be terrific if it can lead to where his certificato di nascita is.
