Dominico Masciarelli

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Suanj, Thank you for your recent information. I would have never found my "family" in the 1900 census if not for you. I do know Dominick's fathers name was Pietro Masciarelli and he married Palmina Ciquoria. Not sure if they came to America, still rescearching. Can you suggest where in Abruzzo I should write to get further information. Thank you in advance for your help. GGG

Hi, I know not with precision where Domenico Masciarella and Concetta( Marchetti, Marchitti, Marchitto???)was born, but I found:
Name: Domenico Antonio Masciarelli
Gender: Male
Baptism/Christening Date: 08 Dec 1851
Baptism/Christening Place: PALENA,CHIETI,ITALY
Birth Date: 07 Dec 1851
Birthplace:
Death Date:
Name Note:
Race:
Father's Name: Pietro Masciarelli
Father's Birthplace:
Father's Age:
Mother's Name: Palma Cacchione
Mother's Birthplace:
Mother's Age:
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C84201-1

System Origin: Italy-ODM
Source Film Number: unknown
Reference Number:

it is hard to say if it is the right Domenico or not...

however a Angela Masciarelli, from Palena, immigrated in USA and joining at uncle Falco Masciarelli in 146 School st, Yonkers NY:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0002
so maybe the Masciarellis in Yonkers was all of same birth place, it is possible...
Falco immigrated in 1893 with wife Teresa and daughter Rosa..

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 3589130719
previous trip:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Falco Masciarelli
Name: Falco Masciarelli
Arrival Date: 6 Jun 1887
Birth Year: abt 1845
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Race¬/Nationality: Italian
Place of Origin: Italy
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Destination: New York
Port of Arrival: New York
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States
Ship Name: Australia

I found only a possible Domenico Masciarelli arrival:
MASCIARELLI DOMENICO 36 M 4 Jun 1888 LANCIANO- Letimbro ship
coming from Lanciano no far from Palena
http://maps.google.it/maps?hl=it&q=pale ... a=N&tab=wl

so all it is possible:
Domenico born in Palena and married in Lanciano, where Concetta was born?
It is Possible because in Palena no one with Concetta maiden name, but in Lanciano are the Marchitti surname, and in 1890 a Marchitti emigrated:
MARCHITTI GIULIO 46 M 18 Aug 1890 LANCIANO

For bad luck I cannot find the arrival of Concetta, and Maria and Francesco, that could be helpful, as a well I cannot find Francesco Masciarelli WWII draft registration card, hoping birthplace mentioned...

Also Maria Masciarelli husband, Domenico Mammarella, surely came of same Masciarelli birth area; by 1910 census we can know more abt Domenico Mammarella:
1910 United States Federal Census
about Domenick Mamarillo Name: Domenick Mamarillo
Age in 1910: 24
Birth Year: 1886
Birthplace: Italy
Home in 1910: Yonkers Ward 7, Westchester, New York
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1900
Relation to Head of House: Son
Marital Status: Married
Father's Name: Petro Mamarillo
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Name: Filomena Mamarillo
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Petro Mamarillo 60 imm. 1894
Filomena Mamarillo 58 imm. 1901
Domenick Mamarillo 24
Marietta Mamarillo 27
Constantine Mamarillo 31
Gioseppina Mamarillo 29
Vincentina Mamarillo 16
Michelina Mamarillo 23 daughter in law
Fannie Mamarillo 5 grandaughter

before of to write in some commune in the probable birth area I believe that is better to search more, especially for to find Francesco Masciarelli arrival, maybe travelling under mother maiden name, and also searching the WWII draft registration card, hoping abt birthplace listed... the surnames, Masciarelli and Mammarella as a well Marchitti ( various versions) are popular in all Chieti area near on on Adriatic sea coast..

suanj

Hello again Suanj, I trust you are well. Since Dec. I have found much information on Dominick (my great-grandfather) and his father, grandfathers before him. I am now looking for Dominick's wife, Concetta. I believe she to be Maria Concetta Lucia Marchetti, born Dec 13 1856 in Civile, Foggia, Foggia, Italy. Father, Domenico Marchetti and mother Serafina Nataccio. How would I go about finding out if Dominick and Concetta were married in Abruzzo or Foggia and perhaps marriage license or church records??? Thanking you in advance for any insight you might give. GGG

I have some perplexity abt Foggia birthplace of Concetta...
just searching the marriage act and the marriage bann( more infos are in the bann) of Domenico and Concetta you can have the right reply; by LDS the Palena civil records microfilms

Registri dello stato civile di Palena (Chieti), 1809-1900 Palena (Chieti). Ufficio dello stato civile

Births, marriages, deaths, banns, marriage documents, miscellaneous documents, citizenship records.

https://www.familysearch.org/eng/librar ... +Palena+%2 &columns=*,0,0

they was married around 1879...

Thank you, Suanj....Yes, I believe 1879 is the marriage date. They had 2 children in Italy, Francesco, born Oct 2 1883, and Mary, born May 4, 1886. I have conflicting dates of immigration to America, 1889 or 1891 and as of yet have not found any documentation at Ellis Island or Castle Garden/Barge office. Wishing you a beautiful day. GGG
