Glacini

Post by tawg »

I am starting to wonder how many alternate spellings there are of my grandfathers last name.

I have found there was a Joseph Glacini on Ancestry.com, but I cannot access the record. If you look through my previous posts, you will see I have had some difficulty in finding more records on my grandfather (Giuseppe/Joseph Glicini). I was wondering if anyone can help me find more alternate spellings to this last name? He was born in 1892/3 in Italy.

I have received his marriage certificate - and interestingly enough, NYC had it under the last name of Glicien. I can only imagine the other typos/errors that could have occurred!

If anyone can help me with this, I would really appreciate it :D I am looking for basically any records.

Yes, that is him! However, I am looking for other spellings of his name. I have found his name spelled Glicien, Glicini, and now I am wondering if Joseph Glacini is him too?

Grazie!

Tessa,

Thank you for your help! I already have this though. He was an orphan, so his parents are not listed anywhere. You have helped me with this before :D I am just trying to see if there are alternate ways to spell the name Glicini.

But yes, he did die in Florida.

I found a Joseph GLACINI on Ancestry in the 1920 Census...is that the one you found?

He is living in Pennsylvania, as a boarder, working as a coal miner.
Couple he is living with - James and Mary Calebro
Joseph lists his immigration as 1910, and he indicates that he naturalized in 1919.

Name: Joseph Glacini
Age: 28
Birth Year: abt 1892
Birthplace: Italy
Home in 1920: Rayne, Indiana, Pennsylvania
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1910
Relation to Head of House: Boarder
Marital Status: Single
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Able to Read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
James Calebro 61
Mary Calebro 50
Goricco Maria 34
Dominic Pulassi 28
Joseph Glacini 28

I suppose it could be your Joseph.
You should know that surnames: GLICINI, GLACINI and GLICIEN are NOT found in Italy today...

Thank you for posting this! This is what I had found, but this is not him :( I could not see the full record on Ancestry...all I could see was 1892 and Italy, so I thought there might be a chance it was him! My Joseph Glicini naturalized much later than this.

I also see on EllisIsland there are Glassini's. Do you think there is a chance any of these could be related or possibly him? Basically, I am trying to find different ways that his "legal" surname (Glicini) from Italy can be spelled. Because NYC had this error, I am wondering where else I might find a different spelling :)

I also see GLUGGINI as a surname. Any records that are similar you can find?

Well, I found his naturalization record and they usually have the CORRECT spelling of the name... His is listed as GLICINI

Do you have this record?
Place of birth is Valmazzola, Italy...
Arrival on Re d'Italia in Feb 1921

This naturalization was 1939 :-)

Yes, this is him. I have this record already. :) There is very little information about him, so that is why I am searching for other surnames. I was hoping his birth records might be online, but I have not found anything. His marriage certificate was very hard to find, because they spelled it as GLICIEN.

I have one birth record, but it is very old. Here is a photo

http://i40.tinypic.com/2r2vw2s.jpg

As you can see, it is VERY old :( I need a new record of his birth certificate for citizenship. I have contacted Valmozzola for several months, but I did not receive any reply. I contacted Comune di Corniglio two weeks ago by email, but I still have not heard anything from them.

Yes, his wife was born in Bardi! Is there anything about her on Ancestry?

I don't think the records for Parma Province are available online... or rather sparse. :-(
