help with birth certificate
The birth certificate for Carmela La Bella is enclosed. I am wondering why her husbands name is written on the corner of the document as an add. Does that mean she wont have a marriage license later. Also can anyone please tell me if any additional info on the certificate indicates her grandparents names.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: help with birth certificate
The writing in the left column is a notation that she married Vito on the 1st of February 1908. "Add." is an abbreviation for "on the day"
No grandparents' names
Father was Salvatore, age 30, peasant farmer
Mother was Angela Maria Lampo(sp?)
Child was born on the 14th of March and presented at the town hall on the 16th to the official for the recording of the birth.
The names toward the bottom are witnesses to the recording of the birth and usually not related to the family. Just happened to be at the town hall.

Re: help with birth certificate
"Addì" (with an accent on the ending "ì") is a contraction of "Al dì" =(as Tessa stated) "On the day"Tessa78 wrote:The writing in the left column is a notation that she married Vito on the 1st of February 1908. "Add." is an abbreviation for "on the day"

When we are not sure about the spelling we add (sp) or (?) after the uncertain word.mikesantorosr wrote:LOL sorry its very early Tessa78 what did you mean by (sp) after Lampo?

Tessa meant that he was not sure about the surname Lampo.
I gave another look at the record and I believe it is Lorusso (which is a rater popular surname in Avigliano.
The age of the mother is not recorded.
On Feb 1 1908 Maria Carmela married Vito Portanova.

Re: help with birth certificate
oh no how did i get demoted? I'm too new to all this and very bad with tech, bear with me
Re: help with birth certificate
Hi Mike,
NO, it is not you who got "demoted"
Debi was referring to the quote of Livio's when he referred to ME as a "HE"
Just a joke among the volunteers.
You are still an honored guest to the forum... no demotion!!!
