Re: Toce family from Corleto Perticara, Basilicata Italy
Giuseppe & Angela married in 1826? You can get their marriage act from the LDS (Mormans) filmed civil records for Coleto Perticara.
Here is a link to the avaiable films.

You order (rent) the films at your local LDS-Family History center & when they come in from SLC, Utah (abt 4 to 6 weeks) you view and make copies of the records you need at the center. Cost per film is abt $5.50/5.75 for 1st month.
Here is a link to locate your local FHC.

Hope this helps.

Kabor the help that you need, is about the meaning or the origin or what?kabor2 wrote:looking for any help with this surname..as far as I can go is

This surname is tipical of Corleto Perticara and are various explanations about the meaning,
and one is that coming from the latin word: tocullio (onis), about usury as profession...
the most ancient record is about Elisabetta TOCE born abt 1770 in Corleto Perticara.. for to know more far of this surname are necessary to find the church records....
but I believe, just my opinion, that because this surname TOCE is only in this Corleto Perticara area, well I believe that is a surname originated by a mistaken version of TOCCI surname, also present in Corleto Perticara and in all Italy in effects.... regards, suanj

research by Istituto Genealogico Italiano tells me that the name of Toce
was changed by some of the Toccio-Tocco to Toce when they came from
Albania and Epirus around 1500 ...moved to south Italy, Apulia, Calabria,
Basilicata and Sicily and also northern Italy near the River Toce and
around 1850 emigrated to US S America and Australia

Re: Toce family from Corleto Perticara, Basilicata Italy
I have some doubt....(?!) for to say so is necessary the documents, otherwise is a illation/opinion as so many ...
a albanian surname in ITALY is TOCCI, (but is impossible to say if this albanians Tocci named was of a original surname of Albania male line, or by albanian women married to italian Tocci..) what that we can say is that this albanian Tocci:
http://www.arbitalia.it/cultura/interve ... _tocci.htm
http://www.destracrati.it/sancosmo.htm
is as the italian Tocci (that is a version, but this surname have many variant and the most ancient version is TOCCO, noble family of Napoli until 1195 .. coat of arms TOCCO http://www.melegnano.net/cognomi/stem00tocco.gif and also Di Tocco noble familyhttp://www.sardimpex.com/files/DI%20TOCCO-2.htm), and only by sound with "Toçi" albanian was translate in and as italian Tocci; so it is impossible to say: albanian surname......... ? also, but Tocci is for sure italian surname ....
about the river Toce (!) .. I have a great perplexity ...
however you can to think what you want.

My earliest ancestor is Domenico Nicola Toce of the same town... don't know his birth year but his son Paolo Nicola Toce was born in 1810.
