Taormina - Montelepre, Conigliaro - Borgetto

Post by JimmyT »

Hi,

Looking for possible relatives through my great grandparents. They are

Salvatore Taormina married to Lucrezia Gaglio from Montelepre

and Domenico Conigliaro married to Benedetta Lupo from Borgetto.

Both couples were married approximately 1880, +/- 5 years.

Hello JimmyT :-)

Found this marriage record in the Catholic Church records of Montelepre, Palermo
The record is in LATIN... Hoping one of our Latin experts will take a look and translate :-)

Church of Maria Santissima del Rosario
Marriage #14 - dated 2 March 1878
Groom: Salvatore Taormina, son of Giovanni (written as Joannis), and of Maria Gaglio
Bride: Lucretia Gaglio, daughter of Giuseppe (Josephis), and of Giuseppa (Josepha) Leone

Second record down on the left side

Tessa,
there's not much left to translate...
Only that Maria Gaglio was deceased at the time of marriage ("qd.m"), and the witnesses were Giuseppe Giacopelli of the deceased Giacomo, and Andrea Lo Coco.

Thank you Tessa and Pippo for your assistance.

I'm a little confused at this point. I'm sorry, I don't know how to upload images to this site, but I know you both are familiar with the familysearch.org access to church records. So, I'm going to reference the documents rather than show them here. They are all from Montelepre, the church of Maria Santissima del Rosario.

You found my great grandfather Salvatore's 1878 marriage record (matrimoni 1850-1883 image# 267). What's confusing is that you say his father is Giovanni.

I found Salvatore's 1853 baptism record (battesimi 1849-1855 image # 150) which shows his father not as Giovanni, but as Vincenzo.

However, Vincenzo's 1818 baptism record (battesimi 1817-1824 image #53 shows his father as Giovanni.

Any thoughts on how this works? Any assistance in the translation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Jim

Hi Jim,

I'll take a look...
Believe it or not... it could just be a clerical error :?
However, it would be necessary to rule out the possibility that it is a different Salvatore Taormina...
My suggestion would be to write directly to the comune to request the birth records you need.
