We wrote to the Commune of Lungro asking about their birth, marriage and death records, as we will travel there this Fall. Our reply indicated that the files had burned and that all duplicate records are in the "Cancelleria Del Tribunale di Castrovillari(CS)"
Can anyone verify this and give us some direction on what to do next?
Thank you,

Re: Civll Records - Lungro, Cosenza, Calabria
Have you used the website for online records of province Cosenza in your research you have to join its no cost.
http://88.59.143.158/ascs_web/consulta_ ... 660D.node1 What about the films from Lungro (Cosenza), 1809-1910 from Family History Library Births, marriages, banns, marriage documents, deaths, supplemental records, ten year indexes.
You know when Family History Library films records of Italian towns they give a copy to the town and province for letting them film there civil records as a way of payment for letting them film the records.

Re: Civll Records - Lungro, Cosenza, Calabria
What happened to the records before 1800 and after 1910?
Re: Civll Records - Lungro, Cosenza, Calabria
Records before 1809 will have to be obtain from the Catholic church which will be on early records the family used. After 1910 you will to write or email thr Archivio di Stato di Cosenza and ask them that will need a id and usually they charge for records with wired funds to them

Re: Civll Records - Lungro, Cosenza, Calabria
Adelfio is correct that records before 1810 will be found only in the parish church. Although some Diocese offices have started collecting the older records for safe keeping.
However, I have never found records later than those filmed by the LDS in the State Archives (but I have never been to Cosenza) In my experience it is alwasys better to request these records from the town as they are more likely to have notations.
The LDS have copied the records of the Tribunale and these are typically records that have been reconstructed after a destructive earthquake or fire and usually only include records for people alive after the destruction. Effectively this means that if your ancestor emigrated before the destruction of the records you are not likely to find a record for them.
